The Glasgow Rangers Fans

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No i wasn't there for that game. And I didn't say it was started by Arsenal. I said that the majority of the English twerps who fought were Arsenal. There may have been a few hangers on. This is confirmed by accounts on certain Arsenal forums and was reported at the time.

Oh some. The usual euphemism for "it was vicious out there".

Well, I was there. And I can tell you that, yes, the trouble did only happen at the end of the match. But when it did go off it was mayhem! Arsenal fans - hundreds, if not thousands of them - tore down the fencing and just milled through the Belgian police towards the Valencia fans. The terrace was breaking up and people were using chunks of concrete as missiles. Thank god there weren't many Spanish there, otherwise they would have been easier to get - and we may have had our own Heysel disaster a few years before the Scouse.

Some of the comments on this have really made me laugh. Before making comments like this about Rangers 'fans', look a bit closer to home. How many tournaments have England 'fans' ruined with their moronic displays? Man U fans in Roma? Leeds fans in Turkey?

When you invite 100,000 people to travel 250 miles down for a party at yours, get them all pissed up, then pull the plug on the telly before the game kicks off, how the fuck do you think they are going to react?

I used the phrase 'fans' very lightly because I can bet that out of the 40 people that were arrested, none of them have probably even been to Ibrox.

Dont judge until you know all the facts.
Read the Zenit thread where a few of us posted about our first hand experiences with those wankers. And then visit Glasgow anytime the old firm are playing. Celtic are pretty bad but Rangers are animals - not the minority either, the fucking majority.

They are brought up with little more than hate in their hearts; hate the Irish, hate the catholics, hate the english (even though most of them are proud to be British) hate the Welsh hate hate hate...

Sure Leeds and manure and England national team fans have caused mayhem but it is usually the minority. Also, we are commenting on the rangers scum as Arsenal fans - how many European city centres have we trashed? Don't say Copenhagen because that was mostly self defence against Turks bent on doing English fans and alot of the English fighting were Leeds and other hooligan firms that had attached themselves to Arsenal for a chance to get at the Turks. Our travelling support is 99% decent football fans that just want to watch a game, sing some songs, have a beer and alot of fun (no matter what rolypolyladbrookes would have you believe  ).

I'm proud of us. 8)

very one sided view from an irishman on your hate of rangers,im not saying we are angels but you are sinking to a level only a tim would go to by branding all rangers fans as scum.when you have a euro final within a train journey of glasgow your only inviting troublemakers to make the journey,as a rangers fan i have been in barcelona, bremen, lisbon and florence this year and not one bit of trouble anywhere.40 people arrested out of a crowd of around 200 thousand is a small small minority.Could you tell me if i was to wear my rangers shirt anywhere across the borer i wouldnt be killed? i wouldnt see me lasting too long in the republic, but sure as you would see it all as a bit of craic.try getting out of the east end of glasgow after the gers beat celtic to see who the real animals are

My brother used to work in a pub in east london called the arches (in Brick lane). a load or ManUre fans came down to london to watch a West Ham game, and some how about 60 of them ended up in and arround the boozer. They tried to start fights with everybody then just picked on some asians and kicked shit out of them.

They went on to smash the windows of local curry restruants while chanting racist shit.

That is first hand experience of it (or was it just trouble following them arround.)

It's the atmosphere and all that. You fell closer to the stadium and everything. Presence is the key.
Tell that to the ticketless Arsenal fans who were in Paris for the 2006 Champs League final.
I saw them on way to stadium virtually crying because they had no ticket, still trying to buy a spare 30 minutes before kick off.

They woudldhave been better to have stayed in London.

Well it was their choice to go to Paris therefore their fault for crying

The guys I sat next to in the stadium in Copenhagen were Leeds fans and openly admitted they were there for trouble so don't tell me that it is all rubbish

Quite right. There were large groups of them in the main square - that's why most of us with any sense found an Arsenal friendly pub and stayed there all day, as far away from the trouble as possible.

Er.....Rome (twice or three times), and was it Lens in France? Ok, so they always claim they were the innocent party, but funny how trouble seems to follow them around. We've played as many CL games as Utd over the last few years and, I'm sure like Utd, always sell out. But I can't remember the last time we had the media on our back for causing trouble.

And, in answer to QuartzGooner, if you wonder why someone would travel hundreds of miles to watch their team play on a big screen or in a bar then you obviously weren't in Paris for our final v Barca. What a f*cking night. And I didn't get within 2 miles of the Stadium  !!!
Obviously not there?

Well I was there, in the stadium.

If I had not had a ticket I would not have travelled.

If we had won and I had been here I would have gone up to Highbury.

Lucky you!! All I'm saying is that I travelled hundreds of miles, didn't get in, and guarantee I had a better time than staying at home or watching in a Highbury pub (both of which I've done many times before!). In fact, from talking to friends who were in the ground, it sounds like I probably had more of a laugh than those who did have a ticket.

I can't speak for the Rangers fans who went - but I think most of the gooners did go with hopes of getting in, and it was Paris, not Manchester. But I wouldn't hesistate to do the same again. Gooners packed the bar. Money had to be passed down, and drinks passed back! Non stop singing for hours - and you don't get that in the ground!

Did you atually read what I posted? Did you read what the thread was about?

Firstly, I stated that there are scum Celtic fans too (plenty of them in Ireland I can tell you). If you want to do a tit for tat session then start a thread recounting your Celtic horror stories...

The thread was about Rangers fans' behaviour in mancville. So we were commenting on that behaviour and previous experiences of it. I can honestly say I've never had a positive experience of Rangers fans and don't know anyone (Irish, English, Scottish) that has. That is fact. I'm sure there are some decent ones but I haven't met them...

Secondly, to say it was the "minority" causing trouble in mancville is not correct. Quoting a figure of 40 arrests out of a crowd of 200 thousand is ludicrous. Are you infering that 40 people riotted and the police managed to arrest them all??!! Does that justify your "minority" comment?? Does that mean no one else riotted??!!

The police reported that thousands riotted, the press reported the same and the news channels had video of thousands riotting. Do you watch the news? The crowd of cowards that attacked the cop that was tripped was more than 40 strong alone FFS!

You might be interested to know that there is a Rangers supporters club in Dublin (and an Orange Lodge) and they have never reported being attacked (or "killed"). They get a bit of slagging (as do fans of any team at some point) and that's about it. That's not to say you wouldn't have some nong attack you for wearing your jersey, in fairness (every city and country has it's share of arseholes) but I certainly wouldn't view it as great craíc. You are a bit of a dick for making that comment as you don't know me at all...

Interesting that you call yourself a Rangers fan but post on an Arsenal forum as a Gooner... which are you?

I've only been to see Arsenal play in Glasgow once - at Celtic Park. Despite only being a friendly it turned out to be one of my most memorable away trips. Being taken back to their supporters club, given Celtic souveniers. Having the jocks come out to wave us off in our taxi's at the end of the evening...!! And that was at a time when any away trip could be "problematic"!

I've also seen Celtic play at Highbury, bringing thousands with nay bother! They also took c60,000 to Seville for the UEFA cup final a couple of years back, and lost but with no reported problems.

My only impressions of Rangers though is negative. A spuds mate still talks about the mayhem when they came down to WHL....albeit that the situation wasn't helped by the close affinity between Rangers & Chelsea.

Khalid, schizophrenia is a serious subject and should not become the subject of a joke. I used to be schizophrenic, and so did I.
