Arsenal could provide scarves to help atmosphere (6/7)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

[quote="gooner.ed ....by george he's got it. singing scarves! they could be programmed to sensor detect someone moaning about alexandr helb and immediately launch into a 5 minute burst of 'arsene wenger's red and white army' 8)[/quote]

That will be 56,000 singing scarves bursting out in unison for a large proportion of the match then!!

scarves

Post by Ruby »

In the old days we used to sing and hold up our scarves. and we din;t expect anyone to buy the bloody things for us. Stop expecting the club to do everything its up to us to provide atmosphere. The Scarf idea is a good one remember when we played Lens in the uefa cup they did it and it looked most impressive.

Scarves

Following ECD's idea, how about singing seats?! Guaranteed 60,000 true attendance. Can even make them louder in the away end (imagine how annoying that would be!)

Or singing programmes?

Also, how about seats with some sort of magnetic force that stops you leaving before the end? Obviously a larger investment of money will have to be made for the seats in the prawn circle and for the pie munching brigade

Or have I really lost it now?????

Giving away scarves and installing singing seats is great idea, and would doubtless raise the atmosphere. But if the players actually manage to score a few more goals , I'm sure that might help a bit

You've lost it but in a fine, fine way my friend

When the stories of a new ground in the Kings Cross area were doing the rounds, I thought we might be getting seats that, should the entertainment fall below a certain standard, would make up the shortfall....

And the adverts in the programme would've been interesting. :!:

What kind of gooner gives such an idea? I own a few scarves of different clubs as it is and I ALWAYS wear one at games, in France a proper supporter always has one and so do many clubs in Europe, why give them? if the guy really wants to support his club he goes and buy a scarf, if you have to GIVE it to him he isn't very likely to be waving it about, he'll just keep eating his prawn sandwich and wonder why they gave him a scarfin the middle of august...

I'm not against the idea of trying to get everyone to bring their scarve to matches at all, but as people have pointed out already most people already own at least one, and if they don't bring their own (that they've paid for) as it is then what are the chances of them bringing one they got free under their seat back to the next match and the one after that.

How about if RedAction and the people who sit in the Red Section at the Grove (who i think are largely made up of RedAction members) were to have an initiative amongst themselves to bring their scarves to games and either hold them up or twirl (girlie word i know  ) them above their head! If the rest of the stadium saw this one corner of the Grove doing that match after match then i'm pretty sure the rest of the stadium would be more open to bringing their own to future games.

PS - Anybody from RedAction/Red Section if you're reading this... it looks much better when everybody twirls their scarves above their head rather than just holding them up (in my personal opinion). If we eventually got the whole stadium (minus the Club Level tier obviously) doing it that would look amazing!

atmosphere at stadium

I'm the guy that suggested providing scarves to improve the chances of eveyone singing an "Arsenal " song. I have got several scarves myself so I wasn't after a "freebie!". It's just I don't usually bother wearing them to games like hundreds of others don't. As others have suggested, perhaps we should all start doing this again as the trend to wear scarves has died down over the years. However the "scarves" I was suggesting the club provide wouldn't be the real thing but just something that everyone could raise at certain times in the match. They wouldn't even have to be made of wool, just red and white material would do as long as it looked effective. They wouldn't be worth taking home or selling on Ebay.
I'm a supporter who sings at every match but it's obvious that unfortunately a vast majority of "supporters" need as much help as the rest of us can give them!!!
Come the vocal Gooners!!!!
