Buffon, big man, big save, keeps Italy in the competition. But to be fair to Almunia, his save against Spurs this season was nice as well
It's interesting how everyone ignored Romania and now they have a realistic chance of going though. Seeing that Holland having nothing to play for, being first already.
Now is Ribery the most over-rated played ever? I never saw anything extraordinary or special about him in World Cup 2006. After that I didn't see him in either Marseille or Bayern Munich. So I thought these Euros will be my chance to see him in full light. And what? Nothing against Romania and some touches against Holland but nothing out of this world
He is now playing in a league that is hugely dominated by Bayern so it isn't that hard for him now. I wonder how he'll do when he plays in a proper tough league, be it Premiership, La Liga or Serie A. It'll be interesting, we'll see how good he is then.
What a win for Holland today! Makes me proud to be Dutch
Well I am not Dutch but I know some guys from there and I've supported them since I was 10
But seriously, the way they've played both matches, has been superb. They've played against two of the "best" and just thrashed them without a care in the world. I think everyone should be very afraid of them, their attacking power is just devastating right now. Their defence isn't the best in the world but who cares, they'll outscore you anyway! And now Van Basten has a problem, who does he pick? Kuyt, Van Nisterlooy, Robben, Van Persie, Van der Vaart, Sneijder? Hopefully for football fans, all six of them!
France are now past it. Scrapyard. Thuram and Makelele shouldn't be in the team any more. The coach is too backward to try new things in my opinion. I mean no Clichy and Sagna, exciting fresh new talents, not picked because he'd rather go with players who've not been that impressive for their clubs, Sagnol and Abidal
But fair enough, he went for Benzema in the first match though but it didn't work out.
When you are condemned to playing your right-back and left-back in centre-back positions, you know you are in shit
Step forward, Italy. I still hope they go though in the expense of France but then I wouldn't mind Romania going though either.

Agree with your assessment of Ribery Khalid, I've never seen much of him at either Bayern or Marseille so for France is the only chance I've had to see what the fuss is about and at the World Cup 2 years ago & so far in the Euros he's been pretty average.
Unless everyone is watching the Bundesliga week-in, week-out I'm starting to wonder if it's another case of people buying into the hype and the big name a bit too much. Then again it could just be that France as a team are pretty shite under Domenech.
Of course, he'll go out and destroy the Italians now to make me look like a mug!

As much as I love RvP...it's hard to enjoy any success Holland have when they got the biggest swine in football history up front. Hopefully they will be knocked out in the quarters when thier defence gets exposed against Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Larsson...then they can coem back in 4 years time when somebody has given RvN the tackle he so badly deserves!

He's obviously in football for the wrong reasons so I can see him ending up at Chelski pretty soon.khalid_red wrote:Now is Ribery the most over-rated played ever? Great win for Russia today, although the score should have been bigger. The problem for Russia is that the defence and attack isn't very dependable. While Russian midfielders like to knock the ball around and find it comfortable, it is Russia's strongest part of the team. As shown against Spain, the defence can crumble under pressure and has big holes, and for a team who should be limited in attack, Greece got a few chances. Defence definitely needs to be worked. But at least Akinfeev provides some good strength while in goal.
Of course having a strong midfield enables your team to create loads of chances, but you need to take them. I think the team is sometimes reluctant to shoot and sometimes takes a few more touches than needed. There aren't genuine quality finishers either, Pogrebnyak injured and Kerzhakov wasn't picked at all. The match against Sweden will be must-win, Sweden can afford to draw, Russia can't. Arshavin's return to the team should be a big bonus.
