Echo the good wishes for nutty.

My sister has now had her second test after her first one was positive, after the second test she received a text that said

"Your coronavirus test result is negative. It's likely you did not have the virus when the test was done.

Keep following coronavirus advice including:

- regular handwashing
- social distancing
- wearing a face covering where recommended

You only need to self-isolate if:

- you get symptoms of coronavirus (you'll need to book a new test at https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-
- you're going into hospital (self-isolate until the date you go in)
- someone you live with tests positive
- you've been traced as a contact of someone who tested positive

You can return to work if you've not had a high temperature for 48 hours and feel well. Contact your employer first."

The rest of her household were all negative so that's some good news, my sister did say that she was sure she had lost her taste and so did my nephew, I said its obviously you're cooking.

I got told to fuck off so can confirm she is well

Firstly glad your sister is ok mate. 8)

Secondly when I had all the symptoms last March and had the test the result came back (thankfully) negative but with the wording something like this: "on the day you were tested there was no evidence of COVID 19 detected".

Now at the time my test had been delayed by over two weeks after I'd spoken to my GP, which was also nearly a week after I had first become ill.... I still wonder if I had it or not.
Thanks mate 8)

I have a mate who was sent a home testing kit, anyhow being the laid back fucker he still hadn't done the test and sent it back a few days later.

He then had a text saying he had tested positive for covid, he replied, "that's some brilliant test kit because I still have it"

Jabbed yesterday , got home 9 miles driving in a blizzard , made a cup of tea , sat down turned on the telly and got told that it doesn't work and that now I will have to have three instead of two.

Happy days.

The thing that should be raising red flags all over the place is that now, 5 weeks after the vaccine had started to roll out, data comes up that suggests that one of the vaccines isnt suitable for over 70s - it raises serious questions AGAIN about how thorough these tests were in the first place, and certainly gives more encouragement to the movement that are anti the vaccine to begin with

It's as I said previously Augie. Clinical trials are all well and good but true testing only comes in the real world.

If they're finding these things out already after such a short amount of time what's going to materialise after a longer period?

My main reason for holding back on having the vaccine myself.

I'm with you buddy - we all want the vaccines to be the magic wand that allows the world to resume to normal everyday life, but putting our faith in something that seems to have been rushed through clinical trials, seems a bit risky to me

Are you talking about the AZN vaccine Augie, if so it is generally not being used in several European countries for the over 65s. This blows my mind given the spat the EU had with AZN the other week oversupply. The reason for non-approval for the over 65s is because of the lack of trial data in this group. The European Medicines Agency, however, approved AZN for all ages. And you wonder why people questioned the bureaucracy that is clear in EU towers.

I always said the Pfizer vaccine was better, and based on what people are saying in a FB group with over 35,000 members who are immunocompromised, it appears the Pfizer vaccine also carries fewer side effects.

When I was doing my research about how the vaccines were developed I found a very good diagram which explains things better than I ever could, but what I did establish was after the SARS (which also was an animal to human transmission) outbreak in the early noughties, they did actually start the research work but didn't get to full approval because the pandemic died out.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55041371

"It sounds strange to say it, almost perverse, but it was lucky that the pandemic was caused by a coronavirus.

This family of viruses had tried to jump from animals to people twice before in the past 20 years - Sars coronavirus in 2002 and Mers coronavirus in 2012.

It meant scientists knew the virus's biology, how it behaved and its Achilles heel - the "spike protein".

"We had a huge head start," Prof Andrew Pollard from the Oxford team said.

The spike protein is the key the virus uses to unlock the doorway into our body's cells. If a vaccine could train the immune system to attack the spike, then the team knew they were odds-on to succeed.

And they had already developed a ChAdOx1 vaccine for Mers, which could train the immune system to spot the spike. The Oxford team were not starting from scratch.

"If this had been a completely unknown virus, then we'd have been in a very different position," Prof Pollard added.

It was also lucky that coronaviruses cause short-term infections. It means the body is capable of beating the virus and a vaccine just needs to tap into that natural process.

If it had been a long-term or chronic infection that the body cannot beat - like HIV - then it's unlikely a vaccine could work.

On 11 January, Chinese scientists published and shared with the world the full genetic code of the coronavirus.

The team now had everything they needed to make a Covid-19 vaccine.

All they had to do was slip the genetic instructions for the spike protein into ChAdOx1 and they were good to go".

I have never claimed to be all clued in about these vaccines, and no doubt you know more about them than I do, but please, for the love of god, dont use facebook comments as a basis for your beliefs  Honest to god if people look for examples of why this generation is more dumbed down (stupid) than previous generations, I would always point them in the direction of facebook, twitter and all those other social media websites which are full of absolute gobshites

Augie, I said it was a sample and therefore an observation rather than a conclusion. It could be a coincidence, but a lot of people are reporting more side effects from the AZN vaccine than the Pfizer one. As I said last week, I got no flu-like symptoms only a mild arm ache, so I am inclined to take notice of people who report the same, and those who report different side effects for the AZN vaccine. This isn't a random FB group, it's people who understand this condition and don't just fire off random comments.

More importantly, the reason for me saying it was better was the higher efficacy important for people who can't produce the optimal amount of antibodies/T Cells, and the mRNA technology. That's not off reading FB comments, it's studying peer-reviewed medical journal articles, not the sun McDowell!

I bet you are a miserable shop keeper who thinks everyone steals from him.

I am glad the vaccine is being tested on the old miserable gits , there are a whole load of 16-18 year olds who have left school , college and have no options as such at the moment , no jobs , not many apprenticeships available . Still the old gits who have lived their lives whinge like flick , so they can go back to the garden centres and spend fuuck all .

Take some time to look back at recent history Shu. Us old, miserable gits haven't lived the life of Riley you know mate.

Some of us had to live through the 3 day week and record unemployment under Thatcher (to give just two examples)

Every generation has their own hardships to bear and maybe you should be thankful that you didn't have to live between 1939-1945 as my parents did!
