No matter what the outcome of this game, the Auba "disciplinary" issue is of huge concern.
We obviously must wait for the details, however unless Auba has turned up drunk or has refused to play, I don't give one fuck !'
You don't drop your captain and arguably one of the best strikers in the lge, on the day of an NLD!
You sit down man to man and tell him to go out score a hat trick and see me in my office on Monday.
This otherwise will prove to be an act of immaturity beyond his novice years!!
Arrogance, with no foundation!
We started today like a steam train, but the third rate Lacazette and others couldnt capitalise, whilst "arguably one of the best strikers in the game" was on the bench .
Potentially because his manager spit his dummy, lets wait and see
I fully agree.

Most managers would have said "make it up to me on the pitch" and then had a word afterwards. Auba is one of the best strikers in the league and can score in a heart beat, you PLAY players like that in these games. Arteta cut off his nose to spite his face, today; he should feel relieved we won.

I think Sid, that the people on here are not defending auba or disputing that he was late, but what they are saying is that there are different (more prudent) ways to discipline your best striker, instead of dropping him for a game against your hated local rivals. Fine the shit out of him or even tell him that you will decide how to discipline him tomorrow when you have had time to think about it, and that way he plays today and you can drop him or whatever for the next game

Its ok to play like a c.unt every week, get sent off and give endless goals away, but turn up late and that's you dropped.

Lucky to be on the bench for me :box:

The captain should be the first player to arrive at a home game meeting and I would have gone all GG on him and put him on the transfer list

I bet everyone is their early on Thursday :barscarf:

That's pretty much it, for me. If it really was for lateness then deal with it after the game. We should be starting our top players if they are fit.

If it's so,etching other than lateness then fair enough, but lateness is a very risky thing to leave out the best player at the club during a derby game.

Sans a Europa miracle (we're not winning it), we won't be playing European football next year. How long will KSE allow Arteta drag on this inconsistent mediocrity before they realise he isn't good enough to get them back to the European cash cow?

I agree. If he can not turn up on time for the NLD then he deserves to be dropped. From what I have been reading this was not the first time he has been late so any discussion about it with him in the past has fallen on deaf ears. How embarrassing it must have been to have a pre-match team meeting and there is an empty chair where your captain is supposed to be. What sort of message does that send out to the rest of the team.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. It appears that Arteta can't do right for doing wrong.

The correct decision in my book particularly if Auba had done it before and warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

Exactly and this The Arsenal, its not as if he's been shit hot lately, since his new contract he's been a bit of a prick.

I think my ambivalence when it comes to Arteta is possibly down to the fact that I'm not as emotionally invested in Arsenal, and football in general, as I used to be.

The passion that some of you show on here is admirable and makes me a bit envious if I'm honest. I was once like that too and it makes me truly sad that I don't feel that strongly about things anymore.

Modern football, do one! :cussing:

The problem is that every single cuntin pundit in the game (including ex Arsenal players it should be said) are continuing to proclaim what a great job arteta is doing, and are spouting dogshite about this imaginary project  For me the phrase project suggests a long term plan, and getting rid of young players flies in the face of anything suggesting that this is anything other than an "I want to win now and am willing to lose young players on the head of it"

Surely the opposite is true Augie?

Unless a young player is exceptional, like Saka and Smith-Rowe, they aren't going to be playing much. They are the future and will be in and out of the squad as they mature and gain experience.

Apart from one exceptionally freak set of young players Alan Hanson was correct when he said you can't win things with kids.

Thing is buddy, young players dont become exceptional overnight - they require patience, nurturing and guidance, coaching. and most importantly they need encouragement and to feel belief and confidence from their manager. I keep pointing this out on here and nobody disagree's with me cos everyone knows that it is true ....... smith-rowe got into the team because arteta had injuries and suspensions and had little choice. There is no way that arteta should get credit for something that he was backed into doing rather than doing it by choice. It is a forgotten fact that smith-rowe is 20 years of age and is no "kid" so this dropping/resting him cos he is a young lad is hogwash imo - there is a lot of recent examples of young players at other clubs that are fully established in their first teams by 20, and smith-rowe should have the same expectations on him. On here I was begging for smith-rowe to be given a chance in the 10 long before he actually got the chance, but again arteta chose to persevere with older players regardless of how shit they were playing.
Likewise emery brought saka and martinelli through and they had proven their quality long before arteta arrived - now that hasnt stopped arteta treating martinelli like shit, but saka was home grown and an english player so arteta knows that he would not have got the same leeway if he treated saka like that.

Also clummo, hansen made that comment about not winning anything with kids that season - it was never said that you cant build for the next season or two around young players, and lets be honest and say that is exactly where we are now as a club cos we are nowhere near challenging for the big prizes in the short-term
