Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I wouldn't be surprised, you have to think that the lack of strengthening in January has to have a negative effect on at least some players and may seem like a lack of ambition especially with 4th place and a potential CL place up for grabs, add in potential issues in the dressing room, managerial issues and all the things we can see it must be difficult for ambitious players to 'keep the faith'.
Klopps blatant tapping up of players recently wont have helped either. The 'Process' could come crashing down fairly quickly this summer if 4th isnt achieved

I'm afraid club loyalty only goes so far in this day and age and that is something our owners and management dont seem to understand. I may be reaching because of my own feelings but I wouldn't be surprised if their were a mass exodus in the summer if Arteta gets a new deal....

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
There was always a slight feeling that really it all came down to him wanting to do exactly what he wanted, whenever he wanted to do it. It's interesting to note that for all his ability to score goals, he's never been at a side who have won the league. He seems to have a career as a player who arrives, scores and then leaves. He did seem happy at Arsenal but it's hard to escape the notion that the moment an expectation or restriction was places on him, he kicked off.augie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:41 pmGoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:02 pmNot defending Arteta because from outside viewing in his Management leaves a lot to be desired but people seem, at least in the case of PEA, seem to be forgetting he has form for being extremely difficult to manage.
I also think that as with other players under other managers when players receive bumper deals they can turn very egotistical. I know we'll never know but it would be interesting to know what other players feel about the PEA situation and how much blame lies with each party.
Players are notoriously self centred, so you would have the likes of laca defending auba whether he was 100% right or 100% wrong
Personally I havent forgotten the role I believe auba (and others) played in undermining emery and getting him the tin tack - as I said 100 times, my issue isnt us getting rid of auba, but getting rid of him at a time when we have no-one better and this will without doubt impact the team and results

Bollocks, augster. Dick got himself sacked. Lovely bloke, a gentleman, and a good manager in the right situation. But we were gash under him. He had his chance and he wasn't up to the job. Nobody to blame but Dick. And yes I agree the current idiot is worse, but let's not rewrite history here buddy!augie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:41 pmGoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:02 pmNot defending Arteta because from outside viewing in his Management leaves a lot to be desired but people seem, at least in the case of PEA, seem to be forgetting he has form for being extremely difficult to manage.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
There were calls on this forum to sell Aubameyang last summer. The way he was playing in the games prior to getting dropped it was like he was sabotaging the team's effort to win matches. The Watford game being a really poor game from him, and his subsequent misses at OT and at Everton cost the team vital points. The team then won 6 games in row without him scoring 21 goals. His absence clearly didn't impoverish the team. Hanging around the training ground would've eventually had a negative impact on the team. It was his time to go. Sad in the way it ended.

There is. And I dearly wish it had worked out for him with us. I still have a lot of respect for the dignified way he acted and still does act towards the club and the fans.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:30 pmONE UNAI EMERY.....THERE'S ONLY ONE UNAI EMERYDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 9:25 pmBollocks, augster. 100% Emery is a very classy bloke ten times the bloke than we have in charge currently - I think Farteta is a sneaky fuck behind the scenes...

Your memory is playing tricks on you my midget friend - I wanted auba sold the year before he signed his new contract. My argument at the time was that his market value was never gonna be higher, and for the amount of money that was being suggested we could have bought Tierney and Dembele (Lyon striker), and that would have the strengthened the team overall. If that doesnt ring a bell with you now, try remembering that it was suggested at the time that my feelings were influenced by some Irish Celtic bias

Fast forward to now and it is a different story for me - I was ok selling him back then if we used the money to replace him, but selling/giving him away with only laca and nketieh left is madness
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
You say that, but we were clearly better without him and better balanced as well , I'd argue Gabi would have been in the team earlier if we didn't have to shoe horn Auba in . He's a busted flush in our system and I'm happy he's gone , watch Gabi flourish now.augie wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:41 pmGoonerMuzz wrote: ↑Fri Feb 04, 2022 5:02 pmNot defending Arteta because from outside viewing in his Management leaves a lot to be desired but people seem, at least in the case of PEA, seem to be forgetting he has form for being extremely difficult to manage.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
The thing is Arteta has nothing to hide behind now with PEA gone, Xhaka is a clusterfuck, every man and his dog with any footballing knowledge (with the exception of a bunch of pundits who rate him because of his comedy value and a bunch of keyboard idiots) knows this, so he really has nowhere to hide, what's left give or take a couple of players is his team, the ones in the main he bought, the ones he plays regularly in the formation and style he favours.
For me if the team cant push on now it is ALL on Arteta and Edu, between the two of them they failed to strengthen in the window and immaterial of how good most of the first 11 are they have left us short in key positions. If the process fails now it is all on them.
