The optimists telling anyone that questions a signing to "be positive" and "give player X a chance". Just like last summer.
And then next May we finish 5th to 8th after those players have the impact of a wet fart in a tornado.
Lads, you be as positive as you want. That's great. But that does not make average and poor players into great players. That's not overt negativity. That's being realistic based on experience. Hope is grand, but it is not experience-based is it.
I'll take 20 quid of anyone's money right now that this manager with these signings will not win a cup or finish top 4 next season. And yes I know the transfer window is still open, but who do you expect the novice Martinez-Lite to sign that will turn us into a top 4 team or a team that wins a cup? He has a record of not addressing our needs in the transfer windows. He spends a fortune yet still we come up short every season in key positions.
I will keep on looking for positives and refuse to be beaten down. Yes I am realistic but he damed if he does , damned if he doesn't. We moan when nothing happens until the end of the window , if we get all these deals done early thats a welcome change .
Also you may be overlooking all these midfielders may be the end of Xhaka![]()

I hope you are right on Clive losing his place. That one issue more than any other makes me doubt Martinez-Lite.
My stance is always give players a chanceI even gave Willian a positive spin until I actually saw him play

Gabriel Jesus is my new Willian, so I hope I have better luck this time!

These are ridiculous figures (if true). I keep thinking take all the money Edutard and Martinez-Lite have pissed away on average and poor players, add it to what is being rumoured to be spent this summer, and give it to a proper experienced street smart manager like Allegri or Simeone and see who they'd sign and see what they would achieve. I bet it wouldn't be a fith place finish after having top four in their hands, and I bet they would not be out of all competitions in January.mcdowell42 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 9:18 pm|| Arsenal are set for a £215m overhaul to blow last summers spending out of the water [Via - @MirrorFootball].

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
I know we're all keen to get some signings in but looking at the Academy, haven't we got 3 players who are full international players but haven't made the first team squad yet? Off the top of my head one plays for N.Ireland and the other two are South American but cañnot recall the nationality.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
The Kroenke's are really backing the team. They really are not the worst owners in the world & in my opinion have been scapegoated for bad decisions made by the football side of the club. Lacazette, PEA, Pepe cost 175m and were billed a star front three and only PEA was a genuine world class player & even that ended badly. All the owners can do is make the money available. We spent 120m last year, & apparently we will spend more this year. Already bagged PV's namesake from Porto. Jesus is surely only a matter of time, while Teilimans is seesawing back and forth. Sensationalist rumours saying we will offer 80-90m for Nkunku, whether is true or not, or whether is successful, if the intent is there than great. I always took the bid for Vlahaovic as good sign, even though we didn't sign him.
When we finished 5th, the papers said we wouldn't sign our transfer targets, the Kroenkes would sell players to recoup some of the money we spent - I never understood the rational for this argument, Josh is the heir to Anne Walmart fortune & that is sperate from Stans investments. Josh's Walmart inheritance is worth about 9 billion, 120m / 9 billion is 1.3%. The dividend on Walmart stock is much higher than 1.3%, which just goes to show football journalist are useless some of their assumptions.
I still think we are in a good position, and Chelsea are vulnerable. Let the naysayers say we will struggle to finish 8th. But I reckon we are in a fair fight with Spurs, Chelsea, United for 3rd and 4th. With a higher class ceiling given our youngsters quality and our willingness to invest.
Fucking Chelsea fans already shitting it because they are being run by an American with smaller pockets than Josh and Stan.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Obviously just rumours at this stage but would be frustrating if we miss out on tielemans by prioritising an unproven youngster.
All the links about prioritising a left footed centre back don’t do much to show any confidence in Saliba.
I do think we will spend a lot again this summer (as opposed to the fabled war chests previously), I just don’t have much confidence we’ll spend it wisely. Having said that I’m not as against the Jesus signing as many on here

Interesting take on the finances of Josh. One thing I would say is the market cap of Walmart is outside of the quoted wealth of Stan (currently around $11bn) and Anne his mum is the heiress, so you can’t really factor that into Josh’s overall net worth.wilson2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 7:00 amThe Kroenke's are really backing the team. Much more relevant is winning the superbowl and the $750m that Stan made. Those funds could easily be siphoned into his other sports franchises.
Moreover, Arsenal is vastly undervalued compared with other big football clubs. Its rumoured Daniel Ek offered £2bn for Arsenal, when Chelski have just been sold for £4.25bn. That leaves a huge potential upside for the Kroenkes if they invest what is relatively modest amounts of £150-£200m each summer. Just getting into the top 4 will give them a good return on capital.

Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
Standardsport report that Arsenal’s swoop for Fabio Vieira WILL NOT affect their pursuit of Youri Tielemans, contrary to a report yesterday that stated we cooled our interest in the Belgian international.
Re: ALL Transfer talk - merged thread
So, if they're good enough for international football, it should mean they're good enough for the premier League. Being the Estonian goalkeeper is the same as being the USA keeper or German no.3 choice so why are we buying players for positions that players coming through the academy can fill?StuartL wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 7:49 amDan Ballard ? The signing of Vieira from Porto looks promising does that mean Pepe and Nelson will be sold as we already have Saka who will play there.
