🚨 || Arsenal & Lyon are in negotiations for Lucas Paqueta. Lyon requesting €60m (£50m). The player wants to make a leap in his career both financially & sporting wise [Via - @Gabe_Carneiro].

Hmmm, won't be coming to us then.
Yep, he will be. He'll be on about half a million a year in Lyon. We'll offer him a five year deal on the same wages each month.

From Lyon requesting around £60 million......sounds familiar.....is that Lyon boss going to stitch us up again?

Retro , i agree with your view on Martinez and i think we made a mistake there but i think Ramsdale is a top keeper and he will continue to learn. He certainly saved us a lot early on the season , maybe he just got a bit confident , that's youth for you mate. :D

Bloody youth!!

Well Shu, I hope you're right, but the bloke was making me a nervous wreck towards the end of the season. Far too erratic. Coming, stopping, caught in no man's land, flapping at crosses, pushes shots straight back out, screaming, shouting and waving his arms like a lunatic. He was all over the gaff at times.

I fear that he's one of those keepers that all too often will have a cracking game, followed by a horror show. Calm consistency is what you need between the sticks and I think he might be the polar opposite.

I keep saying on here regarding many things, that I hope I'm wrong and I honestly do, but.... :( .

We'll see.

All very valid points EXCEPT have you looked at some of the goals martinez conceded last season for villa ? For me martinez was the definition of the type of keeper you refer to - with us for years and then hit a golden spell which was not an accurate reflection on the mans ability at all, but we have been so shit in goals for over a decade that some fans have become blinded by that one hot streak in his career. I'm not a defender of pep's cone boy AT ALL, but I will continue to defend him on the reasons for sale of martinez - people slate him for preferring leno, but I honestly believe he favoured neither but was willing to sell whichever one of them the first offer came in for

Agreed and would also argue that hot streak may not have come if he was playing in front of fans.

I don't understand this transfer link, it's not like we need another AM. We need a DM/CM. Unless paqueta plays in the deeper role. Don't recall seeing him play when I've watched Lyon or Brazil matches in the last couple of years. For that amount he needs to be better than we've already got, and as good as Gilberto or Fernandinho.

No doubt wants to be allowed to leave for peanuts. Let him rot in the reserves.

Well Augie, I know you were always anti Martinez, which I couldn't understand at the time, because he couldn't do anymore than he was doing during that "golden spell" as you put it and it's not as though we'd seen him have a poor spell previously, because we'd hardly seen the bloke in all those years. He'd never before had anything like a run of games.

Yes, I saw a couple of dodgy goals he conceded at Villa, but I also saw that his performances, week in week out, were very good. As for Arteta, he definitely favoured Leno, which is why he made it clear that he would be starting the new season as No. 1 and which is why Emi chose to leave.

I was never particularly anti Leno (although, as you say, following years of awful keepers under the French clown, it was good to have someone that was not a walking disaster), but for me, Martinez proved himself head and shoulders above him. As for Ramsdale, I'm assuming you agree with me from your "very valid points" comment. He doesn't inspire me with any confidence at all. In fact, I sit waiting for a fuck up.

Of the three, I'd take Martinez all day long. I wonder what Villa fans think of him?

Hasn't he been playing in front of fans at Villa then?? Despite what Augie says, he had a very good season there.

He was also highly thought of by Reading fans during his loan spell there.

I liked Martinez and rated him way above Captain Spillsalot Leno. But for me I think the best of the three is Ramsdale, just ahead of Martinez, even though Ramsdale had a couple of clangers towards the end of the season.

I'm hoping he'll knock on next season and grow into the role and steady things down. Having a decent pair of centre halves in front of him - that aren't panic stricken because of the braindead prick randomly pointing in front of them - might just help Ramsdale settle in....
