This is what all on here and everyone else doesn't understand. Does Arteta see something in him that we don't?Retro Gunner wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 6:12 pmI've said it before on here, but I can't understand how people seem to think that every signing we make signals the end of Clubfoot Xhaka.
Firstly, we don't seem to have signed a proper centre mid, let alone a holding type. I don't know much about Vieira, but from what I can make out, he's another number 10 type and if Zinchenko plays in midfield, wasn't he on the left at City...don't remember him centrally?
Most importantly, for Xhaka to be replaced, the manager would need to want to replace him and there's seems to be zero evidence for that. Quite the opposite in fact. I've no doubt, as I've said before, that he'll be bumbling about in midfield, putting us in all sorts of trouble as usual, on the opening day of the season. Don't delude yourselves, we all want him gone, but Arteta sees him as a vital element in the side and he'll be the first midfield name on the sheet. It's why I'd sack the cone man tomorrow.
By the way, despite all those that think this has been and will be a successful transfer window, I agree with Augie that other than bringing in Jesus (who I'm not at all convinced by, but we'll see), there has been no material improvement where it matters and certainly nothing to make me think we'll challenge those above us. However, I'd love us to land another one or two that Arteta is after, so that this will be well and truly his team (which it actually already is) and he has no room for excuses re squad numbers and ability. He's spent bundles since he took over and we've not progressed at all...league positions prove it. So, if we don't get 4th, which we won't, then he needs to be gone. Personally, I'd be reviewing him very closely in Oct/Nov and if we're still an incoherant, unreliable mess, he'd be gone.

Is it perhaps because none of us have been 30 years in football management? Or is it (most likely option) that Xhaka has a video of Arteta fucking a goat ?
