Partey’s crocked again? Ok no need to panic just play El Neney…wait he’s fucked too? Oh shit, ok I got it just put Zinchenko in there, job done.

He’s what?

Our current problems In central midfield are exactly why I can't buy into the notion that Arteta is some sort of genius about to bring the glory days back. Partey was crocked for the run in last season and we were forced to start Elneny and Xhaka and yet Arteta didn't think we needed to upgrade that area in the summer. Even if we had done so, a Patrick Vieira clone could walk in the door and he wouldn't get a game over Xhaka, his persistence with that waste of space is negligence in itself.

The argument of putting Tomi back in at RB and White moving into DM is all well and good, but has anyone ever seen White at DM? Is he capable of stepping up for a sustained period, is he even good enough?

For clarification I have no problem with Tomi at RB just not sure White would be any better at DM, now White for Xhaka is a different story, in any position

My source at Colney says we are in a mad dash to buy a central midfielder. Edu is on the case.

He played in that position for both Leeds and Brighton. By all accounts was competent enough. Certainly has the defensive and passing capability for the role. From what I've seen of him at RB, he's probably more comfortable in the central DM role than RB if CB is taken by Saliba and Gabriel. Petit was signed as CB and moved into midfield and White has a similar style of play so could work.b

Hmm long time ago but that’s not how I remember it mate.

I thought Wenger signed Petit to play in midfield, not defence? In fact, I have a strangely vivid memory of playing cricket as a teenager and listening on radio 5 live where Petit was making his debut (in midfield) vs. Leeds on a nice warm summer afternoon :rubchin:

Could well be true mate:

Premier League leaders Arsenal make shock £20m bid for Brazil ace after injuries to key players
Arsenal have offered £20m for Brazil international Danilo as clock ticks down on transfer window.

The Gunners want Palmeiras' 21-year-old Danilo, after being forced into searching for reinforcements due to injuries.

While the Premier League leaders have made a stellar start to the season with four wins out of four, injuries to key midfielders have forced Mikel Arteta's hand.

With the transfer window set to slam shut in 24 hours, the North Londoners have made their shock bid for the acclaimed defensive midfielder.

However, reports coming out of Brazil claim that the Sao Paulo outfit are demanding for a higher fee.

Arsenal host struggling Aston Villa at the Emirates tonight, Wednesday (August 31) and will be missing Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny - with the Gunners short on experience in defensive midfielders.

In other news, Arsenal could be willing to make a late bid for PSV winger Cody Gakpo after suitors Southampton had a bid turned down earlier this week.

Verily Tis So BFG4, I feel quite certain I am not alone in thinking that Arteta isn't the answer to our long standing malaise.God I wish he were! Every Gooner wants us to be at the Top again, but as long as Arteta keeps faith with the Utter Disaster waiting to happen UberCUNT-Clive it is simply not possible to have complete faith in him get behind his decisions etc.

The truth lies somewhere in between. I think he had been a left back in France, I suppose he might have covered at centre half, don't know, but I'm sure he was a left back. As g88ner says, I think he only ever played in midfield for us. Exactly why that would suggest that White or anyone other defender is capable of centre mid for us, given the level we're trying to compete at, I've no idea.

It's also worth remembering that, as good as Petit was for us, he was playing alongside PV4 and Paddy was capable of carrying anyone and making them look twice the player they were. When Petit believed his own press and left for Barca, I said that he'd soon be on the bench and sure enough he was. When he moved to Chelsea, he was very average. Goes to show how good PV4 was.

Yes was there that day....both lined up in the middle in front of the defence as i remember...superb together a real barrier in front of the defence
As for White hes good on the ball and could see him in a midfield role

Arsenal have just submitted a bid for Leicester city midfielder Youri Tielemans believed to be around £20m

Arsenal have offered £20m inc add ons. Guaranteed amount £15m bid submitted via intermediary who’s working on the deal. Arsenal happy to wait for him. Trying to force Leicester to lower price. Player wants arsenal move out of all other options. Still no outcome.
