Biggest big name flop?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

My Dad has also told me how excited about Peter Marinello everyone got and he was a huge dud!

Added to the list and I know a few of you won't like this is Charlie Nicholas for me!

Considering how hyped he was, Baptista was shocking !

Maybe great in Spain or playing for Brazil but in the Prem for us, he was pants. That miss at Spurs and his attempted 'step-over' at home to Bolton were just embarrassing.

To think AW was considering £15 million for him

Would had made Veron look a sound investment.

Ever since he signed he was trying to get his move to Real Madrid, when he finally got it on loan he flopped there too. Then we sold him to A.Madrid and didnt score a goal for them all season. He wasnt even in the Euro 2008 Spain Squad. Five years ago he was supposed to be THE outstanding talent in Spanish football. If ever somebody didnt fulfill his potential at Arsenal it was him. If he had of fulfilled it then Sevilla would have got the full £24m that was reported when we first signed him.

As I stated before he may well have fulfilled his potential with us if he hadnt to endure the crap for our "main man" at that time mr henry. I agreed in my 1st response that his career has nosedived since he left us but he is still young enough to turn it around again. Ok he didnt get into the spanish euro 08 squad but it is a squad regarded by most people as the most potent attacking squad in the whole comp so not getting into the squad is no disgrace. Is reyes not getting into the spain squad any worse than sagna and clichy not getting into a very poor french squad ? We dont disregard them on the back of that cos we know that they are the best full backs around.

The way I see it is that we have a need on the left wing and jose has pace, an eye for goal and plays our type of football and also would come reasonably priced which would free up funds for other needs - its a win win scenario for me 8)

That is true, but I can't see him ever coming back.....didn't he cite 'not settling in to London life' as his reason for leaving? We could do much worse than having Reyes back (Eboue for example!!)

There was a spell when Gaizka Mendieta really was the shit at Valencia. Moved for massive money to Lazio and just disappeared, resurfacing at Middlesbrough.

Staying with Boro, whatever happened to the original "new Maradona" Carlos Marinelli?
