Whilst everyone talks about Ramsdale getting caught in possession it seems that nobody has queried the logic of the pass to him when Brentford had two players waiting on the edge of the box. Playing out from the back is all well and good where the situation allows it , but when there is no room it is fraught with problems . To do it successfully there has to be an outlet 3 passes ahead , to do it and put the keeper in the position to have to lump it away because of being put under pressure , they might have well lumped it in the first place.
Incidently watching the City - Liverpool match both of their keepers got caught playing out but there is little media criticism about Ederson and Allison .

I mentioned the same thing a few weeks ago when white was stupidly passing back to raya - to me it comes down to a lack of responsibility from the defenders who dont want to skew their passing stats and instead pass it to a keeper and let him carry the can Again it all ties back to el basque's tactical "plan" - when you see the way he cast aside a good left back in tierney cos he wanted an inferior defender but better passer at let back, then that sends a message to all the players as to what the managers priority is, so they will throw their team-mates under the bus to keep their own passing accuracy stats high

White attempted a 40 yard diagonal in the last minute v Brentford when all we needed to do was keep the ball and see the time out

It's literally a case of passing the buck. They're obviously told not to kick it long and that leads to them playing their team mates into trouble, especially the goalkeeper. It's a ridiculous policy and can't always be done, quite apart from a long ball sometime being optional when the opposition have a high press going on. Mind you, other than Martinelli, we don't really have the personnel to get onto a long ball.
