As both I and Mc have said above, the idea of Partey and Jorginho in midfield against this lot is doomed to disaster.

Here’s an idea….we haven’t seen much of him, but I’d be tempted to put Calafiori in the middle of the park. He’s strong and looks quick, gets stuck in and doesn’t look bad on the ball.

I don’t usually like the idea of promoting defenders to midfield (I didn’t like it when Keown was used that way), because you usually sacrifice mobility and creativity, but we get neither of those things from Partey (total liability) or Jorginho. Also, we’ll need some power and dynamism to deal with Bissouma and Sarr and they’ll run roughshod over Jorginho. Timber, if fit, is an alternative, but I think Calafiori has the size and power to do a holding job, which is what we’ll need.

Ain’t gonna happen of course, but just throwing it out there to see what you fellas think.
Wasn't Petit a defender originally?

That might not be a bad call, Retro. Of course though, if Arteta hasn't thought of it, then it has no merit.

Ah yes, of course, Mikel knows and ONLY Mikel. :barscarf:

As for Petit, yes, I seem to remember that he’d been playing left back in France.

As opposed to Bonnie Tyler, who wasn’t left back in France, so much as lost in France.

 I’ll get me coat.

I don't get !? :?

Ohhhh! I think I geddit ... I am guessing that, that is either the title of a song or a line from a song by said 'Bonnie Tyler'

Well if my guess is correct you should take not only your coat but your boots and toothbrush.........

Why?

Because anyone being so familiar with the songs of Bonnie Tyler deserves the shame of the Ban Hammer, even if only as a temporary measure to serve as a reminder as to the levels of musical taste one would expect on this ere revered forum.

Last but not least....if DB really did threaten to ban me, then I'd shit myself, which would, of course, be a total eclipse of the fart.

That's it, you'll all be pleased to hear that I'm out of Bonnie Tyler hits. :barscarf:

Personally without Rice I think we need to play 3 at the back with the wing backs giving us the attacking prowess and a solid 3 centre mid.
I'm sure the genius Mikel will get it spot on (not).

Trouble is, without Rice, I can’t think of a single “solid centre mid” that we’ve got. It’s why I suggested playing Calafiori in there.

Agreed Partey and Jorginho going into the NLD is worrying to say the least.....
