But that cannot excuse a shocking penno decision and we are right to be outraged man.augie wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 8:25 pmmcdowell42 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 8:08 pmArteta on Brighton's penalty: "I have never seen a decision like this in my career."
Arteta speaking to BBC Match of the Day about Ethan Nwaneri:
"Really bad news because I think we've lost him, we had to take him off at half-time with some muscular issues."
And I agree with him re their penalty, BUT to focus purely on that (as it seems everyone is) means we are failing/refusing to see the issues regarding team performances and lack of quality in some players - it isnt just today's game cos we were muck in first half against brentford the other day, and generally speaking our performances this season have fallen well below the required level. Like I said earlier, our tactics and our lack of killer instinct is coming from the manager, and you cant win a league playing lazy half arsed football as much as we do.
Again I am fuming over the penalty decision too, but watch the fan boys cling onto that as the excuse in the coming weeks as a means of deflecting from our glaring shortcomings
Did I not say that I was outraged too ?? I havent seen the replay where saliba apparently gets the ball before contacting with their player, but I still dont think it was a penalty even if he didnt touch the ball. The decision that I highlighted in first half where he didnt give us advantage and didnt book their player was another shocker, and like rodders I was literally shouting/screaming at the tv when he gave us no free for the same challenge on martinelli that he had penalised calafiori for literally 30 seconds before that - how in gods fcuking name can you have two identical incidents within a minute and give two different decisions ??

But our performance was as bad as the referee's - we were playing against a team that hadnt won in 8 games (I'm told) and yet we backed off when we had our foot on their throat. We have a mentality weakness that runs from the manager to the players and into (some) fans, and it angers me tbh
