I enjoyed the game!

A few positives....

Jack Wilshire looks like a real talent...he's not afraid to take people on, and every movement he makes with the ball is positive..he commits defenders, and is always looking for the forward pass. He reminds me a lot of Joe Cole, and for 16yrs of age, he looked remarkably comfortable in his surroundings.

Francis Coquelin has really impressed me. How refreshing to see a young footballer playing with both intensity and desire in a meaningless friendly! His tackling looks very good, and he looked reasonably comfortbale on the ball..that's twice in a week, he's come on and changed the pace of the game. Star performer 8)

Clichy & Sagna looked solid in defence, and Clichy was probably our best attacker in the first half; they look ready and hungry for the new season! :barscarf:

Vela finally made his Arsenal debut..that has to be a positive!

And negatives....

Hoyte & Hoyte were a fecking disaster! :? Brothers???? seriously?? they played like they'd never met each other before!

Almunia - Ok, maybe harsh as I'm not even sure he was at fault for the goal...but wouldn't it be just great if once in a while, our goalie actually bailed us out of trouble with a world class save! too much to ask?

Finally...Randall & Lansbury - they're talented young Englishmen, who also play for Arsenal, so I'm 100% on their side..but I'm just not convinced by either of them. Unlike Coquelin, they aren't playing with desire and intensity, and their passing, awareness, shooting, and pretty much every aspect of their game has been poor in my opinion. Oh well.

Well put together, it was only a runout....

Some good younger players, but I feel we will need two good experienced
players for this season.

Shovell
who exactly is he? Other then annoying pundit who you want to see whacked with a chair. Why was he appointed? A former player I'm not aware of?

IHH. I think your a little harsh on the opposition. They have been in 3 cup finals over the last few years, they are now a top division side and would have been earlier but for a point deduction the season before. Not without decent players either, like Richárd Guzmics, already a U21 international. A step up from Barnet certainly

Don't think it is fair to ask Almunia to have done anything more as a shot stopper, Jens got beaten like that against Spain but Almunia might have done better to pull the defence back earlier. Justin Hoyte is not a centreback (neither is Lansburry a winger so why he keeps getting picked there) and Gavin suffers from the young defender's problem of positioning so perhaps not surprising their problem. Coquelin continues to impress, Denilson was far better in the first half then he has been for awhile, Wilshire was one of our best players, his movement, passing and vision are so promising, always going to be difficult for him yet he passed the test. Walcott flitted in and out, got a little greedy in the second half but it was better then against Barnet, Vela's link up play was good even if he seems reluctant to head the ball while Big Nick was far better, one period of miscontrol aside, his runs and passing cuase the defence problems. Now he just needs a goal and to be a bigger threat when crosses come in

Felt a little sorry for Simpson, isolated and left to feed on scraps. Felt he did quite well with what little he could do

Shovell had 15 minutes of fame (as a drummer?) with a band (M People?) and subsequent to that is now seen as the voice of the Arsenal fan!!

Don't get me wrong, I don't doubt he is a big Arsenal fan, probably a really nice bloke and a great laugh to be with. But he should not be popping up on nearly all the programmes on Arsenal TV - supposedly as a fan's representative - and then refuse to say it as it is. :banghead:  There is enough 'rose-tinted' people on there already, so let's have more of the 'realists' point of view.

Plus, the real and plain truth of it is that Shovell is a rubbish football analyst who struggles to add anything to the programmes he appears in.

That plank Shovell is a fucking joke. What is he doing commenting on the performance when did he ever kick a ball? All he ever says is Arsenal are great and to keep the faith. He does not represent the average fan.Tom bloody Watt and Stewart Robson who talks bullshit are the same .We dont want to be told everything is great when we can see with our own eyes that they are not. They are afraid to tell it like it is incase it upsets the club.Lets have some honesty ATV

Shovell i wish someone would hit him over the head with one :banghead:

To be fair to Stewart Robson, he hasn't been afraid to be critical and disagree with the 'Arsenal view' in the past, and is the one person on there who does speak his mind - whether it's popular or not. 8)

I can't be arsed to read all this thread having joined so late so apologies if anyone has already mentioned this.
I had to laugh when tin-tin referred to the Hoyte brothers as the chuckle brothers. Probably the best description of their defensive ineptitude possible.
I thought Wilshire looked really good and although I'm not a fan of his, Bendtners control and pass for Theos goal was superb.
Shit game but then being a pre season friendly I didn't expect anything else really.
One question......who thinks that the ball never crossed the line. Personally, I didn't think so.

I liked Stewart Robson

he would be a god though if he did take his chair and beat Shovell for his inane comments. Then we would just need to lure Jamie Redknapp into Robon's reach

Shovel winds me up as well. In fact, if you look at Robsons face sometimes, I think he winds him up too. You just know that Robson is dying to say "Shut up twat".
His most embarrassing one by far was during the season review shows where he awarded each month either a No, Half or full Robbo    What a load of cock :banghead: :banghead:
