I don’t think there’s a player we have got rid of under Arteta that we need back. Martinez at a stretch but he is nowhere near World Goalie of The Year. Biggest Prick in World Football, yes. Not a great keeper though and prone to gaffes.

The issue is that we haven’t brought in better players.

Still think Smith-Rowe was a mistake. Plenty of signs there was a player there. With better coaching, he will make it.

If we hadn’t used up our domestic quota for loan signings, it wouldn’t been worth a try but both are too raw to make them permanent signings for me. We need a world class striker now and there is no way around it.
Agreed, but thought those 2 would / could be cheaper options in the short term: this window.
I hear you OBG but I doubt the fans have the patience for untested talent, not least our resident transfer arbiter augie.
By failing to take action in the summer the club has left itself a transfer mountain to climb and must bring in players who can deliver straight away.

This is where fan boys like you let yourselves down - go back through my posts and you will see that I am the one bemoaning the lack of patience the cone boy showed in untested talent like sambi, tavares, marquinos etc, but instead you take lazy option and label me as a critic of the unproven purchases. The biggest criticism for signings I have thrown at the water boy (yes I have demoted him to water boy cos he has less brains than bobby boucher  ), is for the signings of jesus, zinchenko, havertz and sterling - again if you want to read back you will see that I opposed buying them as soon as the rumours started so it isnt as though I was wise after the event. These were all (except fat sterling) big money buys, and are very much in the money wasted category. What I have said many times however, is that whenever we sign a striker (please god let the water boy be sacked first), then that striker has to be top quality and therefore top money - we cant wait for a young player to develop in that position
You can't bemoan lack of patience with untested talent and then turn around and criticise the players who helped dig us out of a hole. You demand high standards but want us to persist with unproven talent. How does this make sense? When we signed Jesus and Zinchenko, we were in level 10 and trying to get to level 1. Given the sort of cesspit we found ourselves in, we were never going to attract quality players straight away. Both were signed in their prime for hardly exhorbitant transfer fees so, so rather turn your noses up at them, you should thank them for helping our revival. Jesus didn't have many critics in 2022 and spearhdeaded our faux title challenge until he picked up an injury in December. We've outgrown these players and need better quality. That's the nature of football. City did the same several years ago when they suddenly became wealthy and acquired a load of Wenger's players.
I wouldn't have signed Havertz and Jorginho personally but I can see the rationale why they were signed. Sterling is a loan move so low risk.

Fuck me, there’s revisionism and then there’s this post.

For the record he has scored twice as many goals and has twice as many assists this season than our captain invisible, plus I think his girlfriends had triplets recently so it makes that achievement all the more amazing

I didn’t think you knew how to be funny. I thought you played a sad grumpy old man act.

Play any decent player every game and they’ll score goals. If we had played ESR in every game A)He would have had to come off at the 60th minute in most games. B)He would have been injured for some of them. C)He would have missed lots of sitters like he does for Fulham.

He wasn’t good enough. That doesn’t equate with us not needing him now. Both can happen at the same time. We needed rid of him but only if we got in an upgrade. I would have kept him having seen what our transfer business was in the Summer so I am half agreeing with you.

I can hear the excuses on the 1st Feb right now......'There just wasn't the players available'.....

Whilst City sign 4 or 5 players!

Failure to sign ANYONE is throwing the season, I wonder if they'll refund ST holders for half the games? City will finish 2nd, Forest 3rd and we'll be in a serious battle for 4th if there's no signings.

The thing that really fcuks me off is when they come out with the line about how hard it is to get players in this transfer window ......... when didnt you buy a striker in the summer then you fcuking knobhead, cos even stevie wonder could see for past two seasons that we needed a top quality striker, but you did fcuk all   I mean all his whinging about injuries and being short in attacking areas in nonsense cos in effect we are only missing one attacking player in our first choice starting 11 - yes I get the argument that the victims showed Saturday that teams need players on the bench to come in and make a difference too and in that regard we are missing two (Nwanieri and jesus) but in honesty Nwanieri was going games without getting a minute or at most 10-15 in other games, and jesus went fcuking months without scoring so it isnt as though he is a game changer anyway

Are we still searching day and night for super super top top quality?

Loic Remy has only been retired for a year, so I'm hoping we can persuade him out of retirement and complete the transfer 14 years after undergoing a medical. Higuain's only just turned 37 - plenty of years left in the old legs yet., ditto Fellaini

I think its time for the second Arsene Wenger to show there's only one Arsene Wenger how to actually sign these players

We signed Auba in a January transfer window. Signing high-level strikers isn’t impossible.

When he was motivated he was a great player, so let’s hope Arteta and Ayto can do something similar this time around.

Nothing to do with us ,but thought I'd put it on here.

🚨 EXCL: West Ham make offer to sign Jhon Duran from Aston Villa. #WHUFC bid worth £57m including adds. Expected to be rejected - #AVFC have no intention of selling 21yo striker; recently extended to 2030 amid strong interest from elsewhere @TheAthleticFC

I’m inclined to agree with augie that Legohead be given no more money to spend, or should I say waste, but that position is somewhat conditional on him being given the tin tack this summer, which I can’t see happening.

I fear that this January only has two outcomes: we’ll either sign no one, or they’ll panic and sign whoever they can get, regardless of quality/suitability. Seems to be rumours about Sesko and as I’ve said before, he looked poor at the Euros. While it’s harsh to judge him purely on that, it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence and I can see Arteta doing 60 or 70 million on yet another misfit.

It clear from his interviews, as he descends evermore into Wengerisms, that he’s getting desperate and desperate men generally make bad decisions. :|

Talk of Evan Ferguson too

Tbh I'd take him and delap as a young project striker . But not the main man we need. But really we need 2 strikers and a winger

Thts the only rumour on social media I see us linked with

🚨 || Arsenal🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 are reportedly very interested in signing Lyon🇫🇷 attacker, Rayan Cherki but face competition from Liverpool, Newcastle, Spurs and West Ham. Cherki is available for around £25m, due to financial issues at Lyon [Via - @LEquipe].

I stand corrected
