Real Madrid A Big lugs quarter final 2nd leg Weds April 16th KO 8pm
Re: Real Madrid A Big lugs quarter final 2nd leg Weds April 16th KO 8pm
A lot of talk regarding Kiwior as a weak link over the last few days. And prior to last time too.
The guy is first choice CB for Poland and only not got many chances at Arsenal due to form of Gabriel and Saliba. But before his undeniable run of excellence, Gabriel did actually make the odd mistake. So now Kiwior knows he’s in for the season it will massively boost his confidence.
The game plan will be to protect what we have and maybe get them on the back foot with some quick breaks. So the midfield has to protect the back line, that’s the key for me.
And obviously the ref will be looking to gift RM an early goal, so no dangling legs in the box, por favor.

This makes perfect sense.SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 15, 2025 7:18 pmWe've struggled to score because 90pc of the opponents we've played recently have been camped on the edge of their own box and we don't have the players to unlock it. West Ham, Brentford, Everton etc
Tomorrow's opponents don't have that luxury
No guarantee we will score of course but I think the game is more suited to us scoring than someone like Everton at home, daft though that may sound

Worried sick about this , we all know what can go wrong, we all know the pitfalls of a hometown referee and officials. We all know that UEFA are longing for an El Classico Champions League Final. So this has to be the most disciplined performance by an Arsenal team since Anfield 1989. Don't give the referee that chance to award a dodgy penalty. Some of the decisions in the PL this season should have us well versed in what can go wrong.
As said above, even if our front line are not the most prolific scorers we can keep them occupied too. Merino might be a bonus as he can drop into midfield comfortably when required.

I know footballers have to talk up their chances and show belief in what they are trying to achieve.
However I thought that Jude Bellingham was confident to a point of arrogance yesterday. It was a case of the history of his club being enough and a mood of expectation rather than hope.

Nothing stupid, no switching off, no wandering out of position and we'll be fine. They may well get the usual dodgy penalty for something made up but in fairness, the refereeing in UEFA competitions is years ahead of the standard we see in the Premier League and VAR has made it harder for the weaker or bent one to cheat. We'll be absolutely fine tonight.

I fear for us. Just almost inevitable that this will not be plain sailing. This is Arsenal away in Madrid.

I’m totally relaxed.
3-0 up at half time and our defence is good enough to hold them off.
I was concerned about Kiwior but look he has come in and played well - he was outstanding in the first leg.
They WILL score at some point - it’s just a question of not panicking and collapsing, and we will get through.

Im going with the Anfield 89 plan, dont do anything stupid, keep ourselves in the game (3 up we're without doubt in the game) frustrate them to the point they have to push on and then try nick something on each break.
My only concern is inviting pressure early and if it goes pear shaped do we have the stones to weather it......Im hoping i'll never need the answer to that question!!

Perhaps like DB10's feeling that it could be our year, I somehow feel supremely confident that we will be in the final
If we get pumped tonight then obvious I'll look a total cock (what's new eh) but all my logical thinking tells me we will score at least 1 and I just don't see anyone getting 4 against us. When we've needed to go to a peak Man City and park the bus we've shown we can and tonight we can
I also think PSG are an absolute dream opponent for us. Brilliant to watch but naively fearless and wide open. If we had Atletico or another low block team I'd fear the worst
Then it's the final and ideally it's Barcelona for the same reasons as above
It's very doable

Hmmm.... I think if we score first they will implode.
If however they score first early on.... I struggle to see us holding them out for the rest of the game and psychologically they then are just looking at a "two nil win" to draw the tie. And they are capable of putting two past us....
How quickly our three nil can be turned over if we concede early.
That's the key for me, do not concede early.

I still have that weird unexplainable feeling Steve. It's almost overpowering!SteveO 35 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 10:56 amPerhaps like DB10's feeling that it could be our year, I somehow feel supremely confident that we will be in the final

I'm sick with nerves even though we are going into this second leg after a dream result in the first leg.

Need a Tony Adams moment in the dressing room before the game, making sure everyone is switched on.
No laughing and joking in the tunnel, and during the handshakes looking each one of those lot bang square in the eyes!
