PSG A Big lugs Semi final 2nd Weds 7th May KO 8pm
Re: PSG A Big lugs Semi final 2nd Weds 8th May KO 8pm
I wonder if we are saving ourselves for another huge push in this cup, another Madrid performance rather than another Bournemouth capitulation,I’m at ease today, que sera and all that, but there’s a few players in our side that owe us a huge performance today.

i feel the same as I did last week - PSG are capable of scoring goals. They have proved that all season in this competition.
if they score again do I fancy us to get 3 ? No.
part of me also thinks (and this is a sad reflection on the club) that the more important match for Arteta is actually Southampton away, which we might need to win to secure Champions League football next season.

If we score one early on, we might nick a second. That's the optimistic side of me. If they score first we are fucked dead. That's the realistic side of me.
Oddly, like a few others I'm not as nervous as I was last week. I think we are fucked and will lose, and anything else is just a huge bonus!
Come On Arsenal.

Pretty much how I see it. The first goal is absolutely pivotal. When we go behind we always look like we feel sorry for ourselves - become very Wenger-like in that sense recently - so I could never see us what Barca did last night for example in wiping out a 2 goal deficit. No nerves at all - maybe that will change come kick off time or if we do go a goal up and it suddenly comes back into view again. Odds hugely stacked against us and in many ways that settles the nerves downDB10GOONER wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 9:12 amIf we score one early on, we might nick a second. I have zero faith in us turning this around. A tactically astute manager might but Arteta is far too rigid and no matter how had the likes of Odegaard are playing, he will refuse to pull the trigger. I keep seeing how we'll play differently with Partey back but he can be a liability at the best of times. I say this in the hope that I'll be wrong but I d0ubt it

Some are saying that we need to come out of the traps fast and score early and I dont agree at all - yes we need to come out of the traps with a fierce determination, but the longer it stays scoreless tonight, the more the pressure will build on them imo. They are at home in front of a fanbase that will expect them to build on last week and bed the tie to bed early, but if we keep that at arms length and stop them creating fcuk all in first half, the confidence and nerves might be tested.
Tonight is in my opinion the big tester for the manager - if he loses tonight with another inept performance from the disappearing captain, I'm not sure he will be able to avoid the flak and backlash that will come his way. In recent days the media outlets have run several stories from ex Arsenal players and some journo's all stating that the invisible prik needs to be dropped, and if he stays loyal to the captain and it blows up in his face AGAIN, then it will shine a big spotlight on the managers inability to make the tough decisions and will tell the world that favourites matter more to the cone boy than the needs of the team - the cowardly captain's performance have been so bad of late that it is being widely discussed in the media, and whilst the cone boy might be able to dismiss the feelings of the fans and the journo's who are criticising his captain, the decision makers above him will also be aware how shit the captain has been and will expect the manager to do what is best for the team and not one individual. If the cone boy does develop a set of balls this evening and drop his captain, nobody will lambast him if it goes wrong cos the captain hasnt been playing well anyway, and maybe just maybe, he can be an impact sub determined to prove a point in last 20 mins or so ?
One thing is for certain, remaining loyal to any player playing as poorly as he is, sends a bad message to young players like Nwanieri and to the squad in general, saying that no matter how shit he has been, he is still better than the rest of you

In my mind we're out already
We fucked it last week imo
2-0 for them is my guess,I would be amazed if we can get through this tie.

Well as an optimistic type of guy I'm going for an Arsenal win, 3-1 to us, we'll be well up for this, players have saved themselves for just this occasion.

Don’t see them not scoring.
Don’t see us scoring more than once.
Don’t see us not making a clanger at some point.
Don’t see us holding our shit together in a powderkeg atmosphere away.

I think this is an important point…so we therefore need to win 2-0 in normal time.rodders999 wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 10:23 pmIf it goes to extra time we’re fucked because our bench is horrifically weak. You won’t ever see a weaker bench in a champions legaue semi than what ours will be tomorrow evening.
Can we summon up the spirit of 89 ? !

If we can then Arteta deserves all the praise possible. However his track record in games like this rather suggests we are likely to fail.

We're fucked and anyone who thinks or even hope otherwise are kidding themselves and merely prolonging their agony.
We blew it last week and I've accepted that and therefore no longer give a fuck or care enough to watch

Sadly the Wenger “gallant losers” mentality is still rife at the clubSteveO 35 wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 10:12 amPretty much how I see it. The first goal is absolutely pivotal. Im 100% all for summoning the spirit of 89, It'd be an incredible feat for all concerned to turn this around.Gunner Rob wrote: ↑Wed May 07, 2025 1:26 pmI think this is an important point…so we therefore need to win 2-0 in normal time.rodders999 wrote: ↑Tue May 06, 2025 10:23 pmIf it goes to extra time we’re fucked because our bench is horrifically weak. My overall feeling on the spirit of 89 was that you had the players that embodied that spirit and a manager who was able to get his tactics right on the one off occasion when it was required.
We've got Ohdeargod and Legohead.......eh......im sure they embody something...but it aint sleeves up hard graft backs to the wall we'll never be beaten spirit i can assure you of that.
