Dylan is a fucking "Genius", as in Off-The-Scale...

The thing is whilst I like how he does what he does, the utter brilliance of his songs are (for me) often demonstrated when they are covered by other artists, such as 'All Along The Watchtower' covered by Hendrix...or 'Father of Night, Father Of Day' by Manfred Manns Earthband' ... I remember when he released Two Supreme albums within a year or so each other: "Desire" (1976) and "Blood On The Tracks" (1975)...both albums of the Highest Quality and HUGELY Influential on so many Artists of the time...even on the Punk bands at the time... when Johnny Rotten & Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) and Joe Strummer & Mick Jones of The Clash later citing Dylan as a "Major Influence" on them as musicians and as people ....

In the Mid-70's I did volunteering teaching (English - Spoken and written) in a small village in Northern Mexico (A Break Year which Contributed to my Degree ) and I took a load of Cassettes (remember them!? ) with me of Yes, P.Floyd, Deep Purple & Sabbath also some of Dylan... and both the Older and Young School kids ALL 'Loved' Dylan...especially his use of 'Rhythm & Syncopation' in his songs... I used to get the Kids to sing along so that it helped improve their grasp of English.

I was just listening to his 2020 release 'Rough & Rowdy Ways' a 2 CD release the 2nd disc is one 20+ minute track "Murder Most Foul"... all about the assassination of JFK... in and of itself a Brilliant, Brilliant song...

Am in Tokyo a ce moment, but couldn’t resist adding my views.

Dylan is peerless imo.

Fave song is probably Jokerman, or maybe Don’t Think Twice …

Fave album is prob Street Legal.

Tokyo is unimaginable unless you have actually been there. You just cannot visualise so many people. It is truly amazing.

There’s 37m people here, so will check to see if Dylan is somewhere amongst them.

May take some time.

I can tell you're one of those Freewheelin' guys!... But I did hear he was hanging out somewhere in the Basement with Pat Garrett or John Wesley Harding, either that or at The Budokan with The Infidels!? But there's no rush I mean The Times They Are a' Changing' So when you're ready just Bring It All Back Home... :D

Forget Visions of Johanna, I’ve got visions of my credit card statement, having just renewed two season tickets. Oh well.

Interestingly, I have just read through an internet post of his best 62 songs (1962, geddit?) and Sad Eyed Lady is No.1 (fair enough) but No.2 is Changing of the Guard, off Street Legal, his best album imo.

If you don’t know it, have a listen…always thought it would be a brilliant song for Springsteen.

But the last track on the album is equally special.

WOWSA! You must be Rich what with 2 ST's AND Going To Japan for yer Hollibobs! :D

Yeah! Street Legal is definitely in my Top5 Dylan albums, Saw him at Picnic At Blackbush (*) (with Clapton guesting etc) When he had not long released that....Good shout on "Where Are You Tonight (Journey Through The Dark Heat)"

(*) Got shyte faced at the open Air gig and stood (leaning and staggering) in a queue for almost an hour thinking it was the Burger etc stall... it turned out to be one of the T-shirt & Merch stalls...   So I ended up getting a T-Shrt and a Badge that have both evaporated into the ethers over time... :(

Must admit my Fave Dylan song has changed over the years, and continues to do so which is why I mentioned 'Murder Most Foul' .. But there are Perennial tracks such as 'Tangled Up In Blue' and the seemingly simplistic but just beautiful 'Simple Twist of Fate' and the powerful 'Hurricane' where his anger really comes across in both the lyrics and the way he (spits) the words out...
