Have to say I couldnt see that Eboue was that good from my sleepy state but Gallas and Nasri looked great today. And even Almunia looked a bit more commanding. Bendtner and Ade didnt work at all as a partbnership, anyone know why RVP was on the bench to start with? Then i fell asleep through the Spurs game and hit the beach... 8)
What a life, BT 8)

Mexico is such a beautiful country...and it seems that Mexico is the theme of the day, as Gus apparently met another foum regular - North Bank Mexican - by chance, before the game! F*ck it, i think I'll make it a Mexican hattrick...now where did I put that Tequila? 8)
And a Mexican song about Carlos Vela by the Away Boyz in the Rocket after the match.

1 carlos vela
theres only 1 carlos vela
1 carlos vellllllla
theres only 1 calos vela

You lightweight. Perhaps you & steary should have a drinking contest to sort out who exactly is the pisshead. 8)
actually I couldn't really make out all of the words. It would be hard to be more of a piss head than stearmaster!

There's a ragged Irish flag out there somewhere that would disagree with you.

My God - I know people see the same incidents with different eyes, but some of the comments on here have been astonishing.

For a start, the comments about Eboue's performance. It just goes to show how low Eboue's reputation had slipped in our minds when, after what most people would consider a moderate game at best had it been by another player, Eboue is considered to have played well!!  :?

He made 1 tackle all game; made some short passes to a team-mate whilst othertimes manovering himself into positions where he couldn't receive the ball because he was marked; when he did find some space, he had 4 absolutely pathetic attempts at goal with the kind of slices a high-handicapped golfer would have been ashamed of, and in my eyes just seemed to run about with little purpose. How many decisive passes did he make? How about the number of times play slowed down whilst he took an extra touch or tried to get the ball from under his foot? If he regularly played in that position and had that kind of game I'm certain the fans would soon get fed-up and start questioning his end product.

Thought Djourou had another good game with two absolutely brilliant last ditch tackles. Although he was to blame for the good attempt by WBA, he made up for it with the clearance. Felt he was very composed on the ball and may end up being the better partner for either Gallas or Toure. 8)

Talking about Toure - WTF was that all about? :?

Damn it..I'm reluctantly defending Eboue again :banghead:

We've been here before, and in this thread, I've checked and checked again, and I have referred to Eboue's performance as... "and even Eboue, woeful shooting apart, actually did ok" - and he did do ok, but as you say IHH, nothing more than that really.

When evaluating his perfromance I think you have to consider that he's a right back, turned winger, turned emergency centre midfielder...and in that situation, I think the criteria for playing ok, are simply not f*cking up and leaving our defence exposed..and I think that he quietly got through the game without any drama's (shooting apart) and therefore I'm happy.

Remember back to the FC Twente and, especially, the Ajax game...and Aaron Ramsey. The times he got the ball from our defence and turned into trouble, getting tackled and leaving our defence exposed was worrying - he was almost trying to do too much, which fortunately, isn't something we can accuse Eboue of against West Brom. Eboue, when in posession, played it simple to better players, and I'm happy with his performance.

Obviously though, he's not a viable long term option....and I'm still hoping we have better options come next Saturday, and our trip to Craven Cottage, as against better - more adventurous - opposition, I do worry about playing Eboue in centre midfield.

There were some that were claiming Eboue had a good game; but that was a well-argued and perfectly reasonable response, G88ner. 8)

I am amazed at how many people, like Davros either think the 49's were a worse side then this one or that Henry was a rubbish player. To say, like augie, that Ade has only done it once so can't be called worldclass is true and he may be overpaid but he did try hard, got in a few decent crosses and only thought he got one good chance.

Where exactly have i ever said the 49's were a worse side than this one or even that Henry was a worse player, do you work for a tabloid by any chance cos you're just making stuff up there.

The 49's were the best side arsenal have had in the modern day and the current team are a long way from that side and although henry was in his final two seasons not at his best in his peak years he was one of the finest players this club has ever seen.

but then how does this make sense:

yes he scored 30 last season but if you had samuel eto or dare i say it a didier drogba 30 would have been closer to 50 and the title would be sitting at the emirates instead of old trafford.

So either Henry was brilliant and the 49 were worse then this current side or Henry sucked. One of the two as Henry never got close to 50

For any player, I thought Eboue had a sound game. And considering he is Eboue, that was awesome from him.

Djourou - A class performance.
Sagna, Gallas & Clichy - No real problems, stayed their usual stuff.
Almunia - Did well when he was needed.

Denilson - He reminded me of Gilberto so much!
Walcott - Quiet game and insists on cutting inside when he could run strait down the wing, then cut in.
Nasri - Great first Prem game. Did well with the goal and bossed his side for the majority of the game. MotM?

All of upfront - Pretty poor if I have to be honest. Too many poor touches and didn't finish off ANY chances.

Or of course henry's link up play resulted in him assisting as many as he scored and that along with the midfielders scoring the chances he created helped us to be so great.

Adebayors link up play is shocking. So Henry is better than Adebayor and the TEAM of the 49's was much better than the current TEAM. Note the word TEAM hat, if your gna try put words in other peoples mouths at least understand what point your trying to make.

Of course the standard of the league is far greater now than it was when we went unbeaten so comparison is pretty pointless and as i never actually started comparing the teams or players from past generations i dont really see your point.
