Napoli Ultras

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We do not have Ultras in English football. It is a large co ordinated visual display, totally alien to our fan culture.

It is impressive, and I envy them for their amazing vocal support of their team.

However, many of them are also violent thugs, who think nothing of fighting and recking trains. They strike fear in the general public, wherever they go. That's why they've just been banned from every away game this season... because they are thugs.

The Germans are a better role model than the Italians. They sing and support their team.. and are allowed to stand on terracing, and drink beer in their seats! 8) that's what we want.

The thing that struck me was none of them have colours on :?: :?:
And why are 3000 fans of a team in Rome ariving at a Rome train station to play another team in Rome :?:

Why did this suprise you?!
Just in UK if you see 3000 football fans it's a good chance some of them will have team shirts on

I think that's a fair question.

The answer is... the fans don't want to wear replica shirts. I read an interview once, when the president of an Italian club was saying how they would love to sell replica shirts to their fans, like we do in England, because it's a potentially huge revenue stream for them... but, unfortuantely, the Italian fans have never really been into wearing replica shirts. Instead, favouring flags, scarves, and hats.

I was always brought to believe the Italian Ultras were born from their admiration of English supporters during the 70s, with the idea to create as hostile an enviroment as possible for visiting teams.
