Sometimes, you need to clear out the old guard (26/7)

usual thread starter... i think people could have lived with the gradual clearing out of the unbeatables team if alternative experience had come in to steady the ship. but we have been so far off the pace in the last two campaigns that gunners are treading unfamiliar waters in our premiership standing. we are now competing for a top 4 place rather than the title.
interesting to see that gallas was made captain rather than lehmann for last night's friendly - one of the few seriously experienced players left in the team.
it sure is going to be an interesting season. let's hope arsene pulls a surprise and we are competing for a change, eh?

the clearing out of the old guard had to be done.
what also had to be done was getting some new boys in and Arsene my trust in him is supreme but the doubts are niggling away at me and plenty others all the time.
if we win the prem then he'll be a genius an absolute legend and we'll all bow at his feet for acomplishing it without bringing out the cheque book, however if he does not and i shuder to say it if the scum finish above us however unlikely that could be, then id have to say arsenes time would be at an end. But for now a new signing wouldnt hurt id even settle for an unknown hungarian argetinian mix. Also how willy was given the captains armband is beyond me, long live king kolo or mad jens they remain my choices kolo would be immense and his loyalty is unquestionable. cescy would be a risk as captain as weve seen the curse of the armband bite us kolo however is a die hard gunner. plus captain kolo has a better ring to it than captain willy

I don't agree on the board
I read the first part of the article, probably 1/3 of it and didn't bother to read the rest. Again I see the same old story, we need money and a billionaire investor is the way to get the money. But again I read nothing to inform me what is better about the billionaire investor. Can you say for certain that what Liverpool and Man U have done in the transfer market can be repeated next year, and the next? No!!! Because if success does not come, those clubs will be in such bad shape financially it could spell the end of them. The numbers do not add up my friend. Arsenal's plan is more sustainable and what these so-called investors are after is the reward that is due to the people who have funded the club and the stadium. If you do not think they have funded the club well think about it, who would have a GBP150m investment and not ask for dividends? Only the Arsenal shareholders / investors, out of love for their club. The billionaire would want to service his debt, not even in dividends but interest payments, which would leave little for investment in the club. Then we would have no sustainable investment plan because the numbers would not allow it. If you really believe in the foreign investment option, show me the numbers. Show me that it would work, not just for one year but for the 10 years debt they would pile on the club's books. Then I will agree with you.

History is complete with examples of 'old money' being replaced by 'new money' and football is no exception. If David Dein had the vision to invite a foreign buyer whom he trusts to add something to Arsenal; the board of Hill-Wood, Fizsman et al should have listened. Instead, Arsenal's 'old money' cast their Machiavellian sword on the enemy at the height of his influence to preserve their position, their power. So be it between the Lions and the Foxes, short-term vision won out – for the time being.
Hill Wood: Yes my dear boy we have retained OUR POWER, POWER, POWER, I LOVE POWER (evil laugh)
Fiszman: Yes those people who love their club we will cut them down with our aristocratic public school ways, just for fun. No school tie, no room on the board.
Or maybe the fact that someone from a culture with zero interest in football, yet 100,000% interest in making a few quid might not be a good thing for Arsenal Football Club in the long term.

But Kroenke is much more of a sports person than any of our current board and maybe even knows as much about football. He certainly knows more than some.
Can anyone out there name one single member of our current board who has sufficient knowledge of English Football, if when they ask Wenger, he's says pick your own bloody manager or get Dein back to pick him for you

er.....yeah I'm sure he knows plenty about American Football, Baseball, Basketball and Ice Hockey.
And of course the Hill Woods involvement in English football goes back 80 years, so why would you suspect that they know nothing, or less than a an American would.
