funny story

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

That is surely the best story ever told - i've been telling everyone about that today, was still thinking about it when i was serving drinks and starting pissing myself, and the guys i was serving just looked at me as if i thought they were complete twats - i they prob thought i was one too.
I fonly every arsenal fan could do the same - been even greater if u could have got her to have put WHL '71 & 04!!

TALES OF TURNING THE SPUDS!

Post by I Hate Hleb »

MINE IS NOT QUITE AS BIG AN ACHIEVEMENT AS REBEL GOONER'S, BUT I DID MANAGE TO 'TURN' A SPUD INTO A GOONER VIA WIMBLEDON F.C.!!

A FEW YEARS AGO A CLOSE FRIEND OF MINE, WHO WAS NOT REALLY INTO FOOTBALL IN A BIG WAY BUT HAD ALWAYS LIKED SPURS, WAS AROUND MY HOUSE ONE DAY. WE BEGAN TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL, AND ARSENAL/SPURS IN PARTICULAR, WHEN I ASKED HIM WHY HE LIKED THAT LOT DOWN THE ROAD.

HE EXPLAINED THAT IT WENT BACK TO HIS CHILDHOOD, GOING ALONG WITH HIS MATES AND ADMIRING THE LIKES OF MIKE ENGLAND; RALPH COATES; MARTIN CHIVERS ETC. I THEN ASKED HIM TO NAME SOME OF THE CURRENT SQUAD AND HE STRUGGLED TO NAME MORE THAN A COUPLE. AFTER TEASING HIM FOR A WHILE, I THEN PUT MY PLAN INTO OPERATION!

I SAID TO HIM THAT HE SHOULD REALLY BE A GOONER, BECAUSE WE ARE A CLUB WHO ARE MUCH MORE IN KEEPING WITH HIS PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER - THAT OF A FIESTY FIGHTER, WHO ARE AT THEIR BEST WHEN THEY HAVE TO BATTLE AGAINST THE ODDS.

ANYWAYS, SENSING THAT THIS WOULD BE TOO BIG A LEAP FOR HIM, I PLAYED ON THE FACT THAT HE USED TO TAKE HIS SON OCCASIONALLY DOWN TO SELHURST PARK TO SEE THE DONS OF WOMBLE LAND.

I SAYS TO HIM: 'WHY FOLLOW A TEAM LIKE SPUDS, WHICH YOU NO LONGER REALLY KEEP UP WITH, WHEN THERE IS A TEAM LIKE WIMBLEDON, WHICH YOU GO AND SEE ALREADY AND COULD REALLY DO WITH YOUR SUPPORT?' HE AGREED AND BEGAN TO FOLLOW THE DON'S WITH EVEN MORE INTEREST.

A COUPLE OF YEARS DOWN THE LINE - AND AFTER CONSTANTLY BEING COVERTLY ENCOURAGED BY ME - HE TURNS UP AT MY HOUSE WITH AN ARSENAL SHIRT ON!! HE HAD FINALLY FALLEN PREY TO THE INEVITABLE!! 8)

BEST THING OF ALL - HE USED TO LIVE NEAR SHITE HART LANE AND MADE HIS WAY TO MY HOUSE THROUGH THE HOARDS OF SCUM ATTENDING A SPUD'S HOME MATCH....BOLD AS BRASS IN AN ARSENAL SHIRT!!  8)

I SAID TO HIM, 'YOU'VE GOT SOME BIG BOLLOCKS HAVING THE COURAGE TO DO THAT' AND HE REPLIED THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT WHAT HE WAS DOING, AND JUST TOOK HIS NORMAL ROUTE TO MY HOUSE: 'NO WONDER SOME OF THOSE TOTTENHAM FANS WERE GIVING ME INQUISITIVE AND DIRTY LOOKS', HE SAID!!

GOOD THING HE IS A BIG LAD AND LOOKS LIKE HE CAN REALLY HANDLE HIMSELF - OTHERWISE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN REAL TROUBLE!!

HE LIVES IN SPAIN NOW AND STILL FOLLOWS THE MIGHTY GUNNERS VIA T.V. FROM THERE.

NOT AS GOOD AS REBEL'S I KNOW, BUT HOPEFULLY INTERESTING ENOUGH NONE THE LESS.
