Now, it was shameful what those Arsenal fans did (small minority though... so what can I do??) and it's very sad that some decent, genuine Everton fans were caught up in it.... and if you read this thread, and the article itself, you'll notice that we too are disgusted and think action should be taken, and the culprits banned (so why should we watch our backs?? guilty by association?? that's fair  )

Anyway, the fact you ended your post with "watch your backs" suggests you aren't one of the decent, genuine, Everton fans I feel sorry for, and you are probably one of the Everton thugs who caused trouble and started fights before and after the Arsenal match. Maybe you're one of those Everton fans I saw punching random Arsenal fans outside the stadium? or perhaps one of those at Euston, acting like a thug??

Thing is.. I'm civilised and intelligent enough to realise that you can't blame all the Everton fans for the awful behaviour of the minority. It was sad what the Everton fans did that day, and likewise the Arsenal fans who spat down on you - so in that respect, both sets of fans have nothing to be proud of.

I urge you to complain to both Everton and Arsenal FC, as action should be taken.. but why genuine, innocent Arsenal fans (who weren't involved) should have to watch their backs at Goodison, is beyond me, and makes you come across as a mindless thug

I have a season ticket for Everton and travel to the away games aswell (including Arsenal on Saturday)

The 3-1 defeat at the weekend did not help are cause as we sit loomingly above the relegation zone, however the result was not the important thing on the weekend. The crowd trouble at the end of the game really did top things off.

I sat on row 26 towards the left hand side of the away section fortunatly underneath cover from the tier above. However it was clear just after the equaliser that things where turning slightly. Cups of god knows what where being thrown at us, coins and spitting was the main problem. The reaction from are fans was nothing you wouldnt expect angry calls towards the fans warning them to stop. Then 2-1.

The spitting continued and the everton fans continued to inform police and stewards of the behaviour from above (i must reiterate above, and that they where the main source of the problem). I was near to the divide which seperated us from you, and when an Everton fan told the steward of the misiles and spitting that was going on, he and half the people round him broke out into laughter and decided to begin to rub it in. Wrong option.

It had gone on for far too long now coming into the 80th minute, and after spending around £80 never in my life would i expect to be treated the way we was by the Arsenal fans, the stewards and the police. As the game dyed down and the atmosphere too i noticed three Everton lads all jump up in anger and turn round screaming at the fans from the tier above, it was clear indication of the spitting as the reaction was key. The Arsenal fans on the other side of the barrier along with the stewards continued to laugh. That was it. The moment that sparked the trouble. The mixed emotions of anger meant that the Arsenal fans taking the piss was just one step too far. The three where furious and attempted to hurdle into the Arsenal section which soon wiped the smile off the Arsenal fans faces. This then got the stewards reaction as he tried to keep them back. Soon after there was a group forming of Everton fans around 10 to 15 who had all suffered the same abuse from the Arsenal fans. The police then arrived armed with shields and batons (totally uncalled for) and simply decided to swing and connect with people because they couldnt do their job. A boy aged around 16 was lying on the floor clutching his head didnt even know where he was.

So the unorganisation and sheer disgrace of a police force and steward system combined with the cowarlyness of the Arsenal fans formed a bad situation.

Well Everton vs Arsenal at Goodison Park, (Welcome to Hell!!!)

there's a lot of banter and p*ss taking on this forum, but one thing looks certain.

from my experience, everton v arsenal has invariably been a game with a good atmosphere between the two sets of supporters.

it won't be now. all because of a few f**kwits in club level. forum regulars can wind up everton fans all they want, but it seems indisputable that the stewards failed to do their job. given the way goodison is laid out, arsenal fans won't have the displeasure of being spat on from above, but i suspect some coins might find their way into the away section at some speed. but be sure those that started this sorry saga won't be there to suffer the consequences.

have arsenal or everton made any statement about what went on?

SPOT ON!!!!!! It will be the likes of you me and 99% of the forum posters on here that feel the aftermath, if any is to happen. Then the people in Club Level will moan and say when it happens "that it is a disgrace to football" and "those poor travelling Arsenal fans"

I probably shouldn't read much into that, but I do think it's kind of tarring us all with the same brush, Kev - in fact, the majority have also voiced their disapproval at what happened.

Bang on. It's not fair that I should be targeted at Goodison because of the actions of others... but like always, it seems that you're guilty by association, and no doubt some mindless Evertonians will exact revenge at the away game.

But, hey, as long as those Club Level cowards enjoyed themselves, then why should they give people like me even a second thought

Everton similar to Spurs in recent years.

Both in shadow of main rivals, so the fans have turned to violence to express their frustration with the teams' poor form, and to somehow "salvage" their pride.

You know what, I'm not saying the spitting etc didn't happen but I'm thinking that something must have caused it in the first place.
I can't remember this EVER happening before at the Emirates and I wonder if something else sparked it off?
A few years back a group of my mates had a knife pulled on them close to Evertons ground - so for the Evertonian to say 'watch your back' is not only pathetic but is necessary every time you go to Scouseland!
