Whenever I see Pat Rice on the dug-out he is sitting back, legs & arms crossed looking like he's got the cushiest job ever. I can see him thinking to himself "I'm an Arsenal man through & through. They won't get rid of me. Where would I go anyway If I did leave!"
Old Red Nose Fergie has had Archie Knox, Brian Kidd, McClaren, Quireoz (twice), Walter Smith for a while and now Mike Phelan during his time all giving him various new ideas, disagreements, ecouragement.
The time has come for a new assistant to come in, shake it up a bit - stand on the touchline and give them the proverbial boot up the arse that is needed, to tell Wenger if he thinks he is wrong, someone hungry to take over the main job when finally Wenger does decide to call it a day (which will prob be in 2010), who will know the players and will already be intigrated in the club.
If it carries on like it is Wenger will leave, and we might be floating from one 'potentially top rated coach' to another, just like that lot up the road have been doing for the last 12 years.
The problem with that is you are shooting the Monkey and the Organ Grinder plays on. I'm not saying Rice is unreplaceable; just that the problem is plainly Wenger.
This season is set now and we'll just have to grin and bear it. But if we get to the summer and he still refuses to make what will be the substantial purchases of at least four players to raise the squads quality and make it viable, then he should and MUST be asked to leave.
Can you imagine scraping fourth place. Cesc buggers off and he simply promotes Wilshire and tells the fans no other incoming player required because "I believe in theses players, their quality (sic) and great mental strength...."

Are we really prepared to take another year of that (this) crap ?
