I was thinking the same id prefer he concentrate on his game on the other hand it might peruade him to stay in the summerDB10GOONER wrote:I'm with you Charlie 2 Times (Charlie! I'm a bit suprised by many of the posts on this thread.. a little underwhelming.
Personally, I think it's the RIGHT appointment.. only 3 months too late!
- but better late than never, I suppose.
True, he's in bad form, but maybe it'll inspire him to get back on track... and I have no doubt his team mates will rise to it too.
There will be a buzz in the team and it will transform the attitude within the squad, and what has been a flat disappointing week, will now give way to optimism and excitment.
I'm delighted he's captain, and we finally have a fitting captain who the fans and players can REALL Y get behind.
The season starts here... hopefully

For me Fab can handle the pressure, he's had it since he was 16. I think with Gallas, the media backlash sort of hurt him a lot and he never recovered, I think Fabregas wont have such problems.
And really, who else?, I don't want Almunia in goal let alone as Captain of our club. Toure isn't vocal enough, Clichy? same as Kolo and besides, he has to concentrate on cutting those rare (but often costly) mistakes out of his game. Bar that your looking at RvP.
Does anyone think had Rosicky been fit he would have got it though? He is the Czech Captain.

Cesc Fabregas is the new Arsenal captain.
The 21-year-old Spaniard will wear the armband for the first time in the match against Dynamo Kyiv at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
Arsène Wenger announced his decision at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Group G clash. It ends a few days of feverish media speculation surrounding the future of William Gallas.
Wenger has included the French defender in his squad for Tuesday after leaving him out for the trip to Manchester City at the weekend. He added that, to him, the subject is now closed.

Totally agree with you rigsby re almunia and I dont want him as 1st choice keeper when november ends much less the whole bloody season

To me cesc is far and away the best candidate for the job and I am delighted with his appointment. Forget all this bollox about him having too much on his plate at the mo and his form being off cos we all know that is down to a lack of quality alongside him more than a huge personal dip in form. I feel cesc has definite leadership skills in him and is always trying to encourage and cajol his team-mates. Sincere congrats and best wishes in the job cesc and I'm sure you'll do a "fab" job

Any idea who is the vice captain ?

Im glad Cesc is the new skipper, i wanted him to get it in the summer also, but atleast now we cannot put his lack of form this year on the captaincy.
The other day people were moaning we didnt have a "Mr Arsenal" and although we all know Cesc is a Barca fan through and Through he has shown huge loyalty to this club and has always rubbished talk of a return to spain (in the near future anyway)..
Do i think this will guarantee us keeping cesc, no, but i think him and the team will dig deeper now than with Gallas as captain. Cesc is well respected in the team and he has been there longer than most so im sure the Keown's of yesteryear drilled it into him from the moment he joined as a 15/16 year old how much of a privilege it is to play for the Arsenal and he will surely know how much a privilege it is to be captain. Something Gallas never had seeing as he joined from the chavs and became captain almost overnight for doing sweet FA! - Why should the players look up to him? - With Cesc i think it will be different!
Good luck Cesc! Lead the team out with pride and passion!!!! We are the Arsenal and we fear no-one!
Come on you rip roaring redsssssss!
