Since when did the English start calling it 'soccer' ?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Whoa there! I didn't start this thread for the sake of America bashing. I happen to be an ice hockey fan and I can bash America enough following that sport. I don't need to do it here.

You have to call it soccer here because there's already a well established sport called football. I was just wondering why it's called soccer there and a poster mentioned that it could by confused with rugby that's sometimes called football. I learned something new and that's pretty much all I needed to know.

If this thread is going to become political, I suggest a moderator lock or delete this thread.
