Would Arshavin be good for us

Goonertalk.com say:

Russia hotshot Andrei Arshavin will be an Arsenal player in the coming days, according to his agent Dennis Lachter.

Italian daily TuttoMercato says 27-year-old Arshavin will sign a 5-year deal with Zenit pocketing £18m from the transfer fee.

I think he would fit in well, imagine having him and Theo on our wings 8) Our counter attack would be top notch and definitely be an advantage for RvP and Greedybayor. I just wanna see us be able to open up defenses for a change and just smash it down their throats

Arsène Wenger refused to be drawn on his transfer plans when he faced the media for the first time in 2009.

The transfer window opened on New Year's Day and the Arsenal manager has already been linked with a number of players, including Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta and Russian international Andrei Arshavin. Predictably the topic loomed large at his pre-match press conference on Friday but Wenger remained tight-lipped.

"Mikel Arteta is a very good player but we have not made any enquiry about him at all," insisted Wenger.

"There is no progress [on Arshavin]. If there is any progress made you will be informed, I promise you. If we buy a player you will be informed."

In normal circumstances i wouln't be too bothered by arseshaving but unfortuantly with things the way they are, we need him more than what we ought to.

I've not seen to much of him so i could be wrong but i think paying out 18m for a 27 year old is a bit much, especially for a club like us.

hmm, Arsenal and Zenit are talking...

Arsenal: we want Arshavin!
Zenit: ok, that'll be £20m.
Arsenal: erm... how about £8m plus an extra £2m when he plays his hundredth game?
Zenit: No... £20m.
Arsenal: erm... £10m??
Zenit: £20m.
Arsenal: £5m + Bendtner?
Zenit: £20m
Arsenal: £3m + Bendtner + Eboue??
Zenit: are you taking the piss??
Arsenal: £10m + first option on Song?
Zenit: Now I know you're taking the piss! The price is £20m!!!
Arsenal: shit... erm... hang on... how about £10m + Fabianksi on loan??
Zenit: f*ck it, we'll sell him to Sp*rs

im all for a signing but i think it should be, being spent on a cdm and/or a cb. its obvious what are problem has been since last season we can score goals, but cant defend and hold onto a lead.
