Would Arshavin be good for us

I agree but i would welcome any decent player over the age of 25 at the moment

i totally agree most are better than diaby, eboue, denilson on the wing. its just i cant see how wenger adressed what are problem was last season when he said we need a cb and hasnt done anything to fix it. no silvestre hasn't fixed it he has made it worse! we all know we can create chances and score goals but cant see out a game when leading. we have no defensive backbone to our team. Just a few examples are old trafford, stamford brdige last season. s**rs,boro, liverpool, villa this year. what more evidence is needed that we need a defensive backbone to our team, to be successful.

with wenger admitting lately he is unsure over playing gallas/toure together because of lack off height, it seems djourou has stolen a march and wengers prefered partnership is djourou and gallas. with the continued rumours over toure, MAYBE just maybe if toure goes he will be replaced with upson i hope!!!

Once again the manager is banking on the 'we're going to score more goals than them' theory and unless you've got Henry in your side it doesn't always work.
I hope he's sniffing around Upson or someone similar cos if Arshavin is the only major purchase this month, Wenger is yet again gambling big time with our season

Agreed, it's nice to be linked with experienced players rather than kids, for a change!

Although a midfielder would seem more urgent, I suppose you can't always pick and choose when players of the class of Arshavin become available, and we've definately lacked a talented player who can unlock defences since Henry left... so I'm all for this signing!

From what I've seen, I think he would be just as at home alongside Ade, RvP or Eduardo, and could even play wide left when Wenger leaves one up top... so he has versatility to go along with his talent.

I guess it's far from a done deal, but Wenger seems to rate him highly, so that's a good sign! 8)

i said before the jan window opened that i felt wenger was under pressure and needed players and that he would go mad in jan and buy some and i still feel that way, he has never been in this bad a position and he knows he has to fix it, the experiment with youth has failed and now he will get some experience in

I really hope that's not true, just seen on on skysports/the sun/guardian etc

Biggest waste of money to come out of russia since shevchenko :(

Will he play rightwing or attacking midfield if we get him?

I would play him rightwing with Nasri /Fabregas in the middle Vela/Walcott on the leftwing and Diaby/Denilson/Ramsey(or anybody who can tackle) as a holding midfielder.

I just hope he can adapt to the PL quickly.....if we get him

anytime i have seen arshavin play(not that often mind u) i have been impressed by him. to be quite honest i can see him being brilliant, wudnt be the experience we so desperately need although he is 27, hes only been well known for one year. talkin himself up like he has,mm, stupid stupid idea,it gets on peoples nerves, like bendtner before who never lived up to it. for such a price tho 20 million im hearing? id value him at 12 million tops, id be surprised if they got 20 off arsenal maybe a structured deal that wud put 20 million on the table should he get so many goals or assists in his first year? wat do we do when walcott rosicky fabregas return,we've once again a midfield with tons of creative players and not all can play at once. loan with the option to buy?? that wud be perfect?

I hope you limit that statement to strikers! And in that case, what about Bendtner/

Lads, for anyone who is doubting his ability can you please, please watch this video and watch it the WHOLE way through..

Now dont get me wrong, he has been playing in the Russian league, and yes it is only a video of his best bits but BLIMEY! Not only can he pick out a wonder pass, dribble with the ball at his feet at superb speed, cross the ball into a fantastic area and dazzle opponents with his neat Hleb-Like footwork he can also provide us with entertainment, width, and possibly the missing key to our midfield.

Oh, and for anyone who doubted his scoring ability he can just about score every single type of finish in the book. I think this could be the Key to the midfield, with Nasri playing further and further inside does Wenger see him as the man to replace Cesc for the time being, Will we be seeing Arshavin, Nasri, (Diaby/Denilson), Walcott as our midfield 4 in February, i bloody well hope so!

He has moments of brilliance. I'm sure you can find a similar video of Quincy Ewusu-Abeye if you looked hard enough. Doesn't tell the whole story though - he's still a stroppy *word censored* who strikes when he doesn't get his own way, is clearly all about $$$, and gives up and strolls around when his team isn't on top. Sounds like a perfect marriage with this Arsenal team

none of them are good enough as holding midfielders and none of them can tackle. id rather we played vela out on the wing or even v.persie and spent 20m on a decent DM. not only would this help us defensively, it would also allow cesc to push up more and give us more in attack.

plus i dont think a 4-5-1 formation suits us well, especially when teams play for the draw against us.

Apart from the few games where he refused to play for ZSP, yes.
