Boomer wrote:The problem is, which Rigsby has pointed out, is that he is played out of position.
Firstly, Diaby is an attacking midfielder.
That already rules out playing him in the DM role.
You also need to understand Wengers decision and formation.
Wenger liked an attacking winger with pace and creativaty. With the likes of Overmars, Pires & now Nasri.
To balance the side Wenger will play an attacking midfielder on the opposite flank but with more defensive duties. Player that can track back and add a bit of steel and actually tackle.
Respectively with the above wingers we had Parlour & Ljungberg.
So who do we now have that can fit the bill?
Diaby would be my best guess BUT on the right side not left! like wise Denilson is also an attacking player and also used as the 'balancing' player but again on the left
Sadly, when both Denilson and Diaby play Walcott is often favoured to play on his right side and therefore the two are played out on the left.
So When Nasri plays on the left you would therefore think it would be an ideal opportunatey to put Diaby (or Denilson) on the attacking right. No! Cause Wenger plays Eboue
I think Ramsey fits the bill and would be ideal in this role in the future.
So sadly it leave Diaby restricted to Centre Mid (as recently) but that's normally Cescs position. Unless Wenger reverts to 4-5-1 and plays Diaby behind the lone striker I can't see where he actually fits.
However, that said we forget that he is only 22!
Very good post Boomer.
You sum up the problems with Diaby...there is a bit of talent there, in the occasional decent forward run, but basically he just does not seem to fit the way we play, or have any consistency.
I can't believe there's even a thread on this. One of our most talented players and we have some saying sell for £5 million.
It might help if Wenger actually started playing him in an advanced midfield role which is clearly his best position, instead of being stuck out wide covering Rosicky, Walcott, and various other injury prone wasters.
When he does play in that role Fenerbahce (a), Villa (a) he is easily one of our best players.
There is a long list before him to get rid of - Toure, Bendtner, Flapianski - even Walcott. Yes everyone's little darling who did more for England in 45 mins than in virtually 3 years for us.
I'll pack his bags for him and give him a lift to the airport . I just cannot stand how he cannot pull the trigger on some occasions and get some chances at goal. If he showed more effort I'd be willing to keep him but along with a few of our players on the team they just don't care. If murinho wants him he can have him, nbot good enough to play for us.
Give him a whole season in the centre of midfield and I can see him doing what Flamini did and a bit more. His proven to be at his best when he play infront of a midfield 4 / behind the striker, in a 4-5-1 formation, but I'm positive he can play central in a 4-4-2 as well. He showed that on saturday when he adaptedvery well to play with Ramsey and even took on the DM role very well.
The problem I got with him is, he never seem to be able to play more than 3 or 4 games in a row without pickin up some silly little injury since coming back from the 9 months out. I'd give him to the end of the season and if his i jury problems continue, I'd sell him but as long as he's fit, play him and play him in the centre!

Is that the point though?
If we are only holding onto a player because we think we can get a few quid more it must show that whatever the price you din't think he is good enough for Arsenal.
Like I said before I am undecided about Diaby but if we do sell him the price does not concern me but rather the fact that another pronising talent did not fulfill his undoubted potential.

Well, I think he has potential, but at the same time he's been with us for a while now and is yet to indicate he is any closer to fullfiling it (I was more excited by him when he first joined than I am now). Right now he is not good enough as a starter for Arsenal. He may grow into that player one day, but on the other hand he may not.
So for that reason I would not mind letting him go at this point, but since he is still young, and still has potential to become a better player, only for a price that reflects that.

Seriously rocky fan, have you not watched alex song play for Arsenal ever ??? This guy is absolutely fcuking useless and I am being generous to him at that. Personally I would keep eboue (as back up to sagna only) but regardless of whether or not we agree on any other player song should be the 1st one out the door and I would take the first offer that comes along even if we were only offered a packet of walkers salt and vinegar that expired 18 months ago cos I still think that we would be getting the better end of the deal

The truth is sell all 3. Song Bendtner and Eboue should be shown the door what other big club in Europe with ambitions to win domestic trophies and even the CL would have players who are as shit as these. And that is why our whole season is about scraping 4th place.I would give them all free transfers just to get them off the payroll
