£10 million is far too cheap, wouldn't mind selling him if we got a replacment but first need a dm, a top quality keeper, a centreback to replace Toure and either Ade remembering how to work hard or a replacement for him. After that, then maybe replace RVP for someone

Agreed Magic

But Wenger wont do that he would buy ANOTHER attacking wideman!!!!!!!

We might need some depth on the leftwing but then again, Gibbs/Traore/Vela might be planned there. We know he tried for dm's last summer, I would be amazed if he didn't this summer, the reason he didn't in Jan, I'm guessing, is our current problem is getting goals, our defense is on a superb run.

If that truly is the reason he didn’t go for one in Jan that would be a shocking indictment of his transfer policy for me. A quality DM is about much more than just protecting the back 4, they also start the attacking moves.

The reason Cesc was in such good form & scored so many last season was in large part because Flamini won the ball back for us much higher up the pitch than someone like Gilberto & also released the ball to Cesc & others a lot quicker. Which obviously meant Cesc got on the ball in more attacking positions & with the opposition on the back foot, rather than having time to set up two banks of 4 by the time we got near their box.

Our lack of quality in CM is one of the major reasons we are failing to score & in general this season even create chances, in my opinion at least.

Deciding we’re not in desperate need of a new CM just because we’d gone on a run of a few games without conceding would be short-term thinking in the extreme.

I do however believe Wenger really did try & sign at least 3 or 4 different CMs last summer. Personally I'd guess there was limited money & players available to buy in Jan & he saw Arshavin's contract situation as a chance to get a truly class player at a price we might actually afford. Risky strategy & as such he will have to be judged on it come May.

No, for several reasons:

He's probbaly the second most talented player we got.

He is the only one of our strikers who can play as a proper second striker, and still score.

He has the ability to score even if he's no Henry.

Him and Ade is not working as it seems like only one of them two can have a good game at once, but I can see him developing a great partnership with Eduardo if he coems back and stays fit, vela if he gets stronger or even Bendtner if he learns how to finisnh.

Interesting range of views about this.

The view put forward by Rob, and seconded by Gus, is the one that I agree with.

The price is right.

RvP has one season left on his contract.

He is injury prone.

He has yet to form a consistent partnership with any other Arsenal player, though I think Arshavin playing as a number ten, or even Nasri playing as a number ten, behind RVP, could form a decent partnership given time.

If he does not sign an extension, we risk another Flamini situation, where he will walk away for NOTHING in the summer of 2010, unless he decides to resign a new deal.

I think £10M possibly £12M would be a realistic price for him this summer.

Some here see him as a second striker.
I used to, but now I believe his best position is actually as a front striker, where he can just shoot on sight, cage football style.

I think he lacks the first touch to be a second striker, as when he tries to control it he often shifts balance and slows down a move.

Seemingly a contradiction to that, when he shoots with his first touch it is usually a good shot, sometimes with no backlift.

I also think Ade and Bendtner have had poor seasons, and would now not bat an eyelid if we sold either.

The reality is that it is likely we finish fifth, and that Van Persie, Adebayor and probably Cesc leave anyway.

£10M without a replacement in place??? no way!!!!

That would be daft. If we plan to upgrade, then ok.... but I wouldn't sell him if we didn't need to (contract pending), or weren't going to replace him.

Bendtner and Adebayor are more of a concern to me that RvP.

We can't keep braking up the squad every summer. We need to build.

Everyone has a price but 10m is half of what we should aim for with RvP. Jesus if Craig Bellamy is worth 14m then Robin has got to top that

Still with our board we would probably settle for 6m with a sell on clause (watching Real Madrid or Juventus then eventually sell him for 25m)

Thierry Henry 16m
Barren Dent 16.5m :banghead:

and we also let Hleb go cheap as well
As well as getting fuck all for Sol, Wiltord, Flamini.....

Trotters Independant Traders would run this club better.

I think that is too harsh.

Henry was a decent price at £16M rising to 20M on appearances.
He was 30, with injuries.

Hleb was fair price at £12M too.

Bent was overpriced, an inflated fee.

Campbell I agree we should have got a couple of million, but the club were pleased to get his wages off the outgoings.

Wiltord?

Same story.

Flamini going for free was a mess, no doubt.

And what about 5.5m for Diarra - the most hideously underpriced of all our sales
