oh well..i guess it's a case of agreeing to disagree then

one question though - how would you feel about RVP finally finding that striking partnership at somewhere like Real Madrid?
It may happen, but I think he is just too individual in playing style to ever form a true partnership.
He remiains the cage footballer from Rotterdam, fighting off tough tackles from street players.

The way he plays for your national team gets good results from him, on the right wing.

But that is in a 4-3-3, which Arsenal do not play, and at a slower pace than the lightning fast Premier League.
I doubt he could be a right winger in the Premiership, and I prefer Walcott or Arshavin in that role for us.

Thanks.. but I'm actually from Islington, live in Holland though
Ah ok, sorry!
So you are a sort of Anglo Dutch type like Gus :D

All I will say on him is that if Bendtner had missed the chances RVP had on Sat he would have been booed. But he gets a round of applause & "ooh that was close".

However he is needed in this team & we cant contemplate selling him

you don't go and sell your best player because he's missed a few sitters. How quickly people forget how many points he's won us this season with his goals and assists.

He should have scored more goals in the league, but such is life. I'm sure he will score quite a few more important goals from now until the end of the season, in all competitions. Also, I am convinced that we have not yet seen the best of Van Persie yet and that his biggest seasons will be the next 2 or 3. I for one certainly do not want to miss out on that, because at his best I believe Van Persie is as good or even better than any other player in this league.

That's not even touching on the points that he's turning into one of the few leader in this team and that we cannot afford to lose his experience.

All in all, we would have to be absolutely mad to sell him now and I'd be gutted if we did.

He is too individual to be a leader.

No, I am certain in my assessment.

Just because the majority love this player, does not mean I have to.

I have my own mind.

according to you. You seem to be basing your opinion on hearsay and what he was like when he joined the club as a 20 year old and you certainly seem to be extremely biased against him. He must have run over your dog or something like that.

All the signs point to him having matured to a point where he is starting to become a leader at this club.

Tell us the truth Quartz!!! We demand to know! Was it the black & white stripey, baggy Beetlejuice trousers he wore when he was introduced to the crowd before the last game of the unbeaten season that offended you so much? Cos I could actually understand it more if it was that than some of your other reasoning on this one!

Those trousers were horrible!

But no, they amused me rather than offended me :D

I have contrasting views on this subject really -

I do agree 100% that rvp is not a partnership type of player in my opinion - I think that he expects or wants to be classed as the main man up front and maybe gets the hump if it isnt seen that way. I also agree that he is more of a scorer of great goals than he is a great goalscorer. However I do think he has improved and matured greatly this season and even if he isnt a leader in vocal terms I do believe that he has led by example especially in his workrate. Personally I wouldnt be keen to sell him but to label him as our best player is pure folly - have none of ye heard about a player called cesc or have we already transferred him back to spain in our own minds ? :?

Can I also add that I think some of the comments aimed at quartz on this thread are harsh and ott. From where I am sitting he has put his ideas forward in a rational way and didnt get personal, abusive or rant at anything re rvp which is not an easy thing to do about a player you hate (dont even get me started about alex song   ).
