For those who want to celebrate tonight

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Probably get grief for this but I no longer give a fuck - there's some wankers on here tonite, yes we weren't at it tonite by any stretch of the imagination but we were still the better team over the two legs, and most of all we managed to grind out a win which some on here too often complain we are unable to do :banghead:

Our young uns held their nerve to come thru a sudden death shoot-out after our dead-cert missed the first penalty against a vastly more experienced side in their own backyard in a hostile atmosphere which while nerve-wrackin stands us in better stead for the road ahead than a nil each would've done!

We played them off the park at home yet came away with very little to show for it and that's where the tie was nearly lost and we have to learn from that, plus nearly every team who's won the CL has played shit or had a major scare, but the key was they won anyway!

You need luck to win any cup particularly the CL and on our day we can beat anyone in the world, so am I whoop whoopin like I was after Juve 2-0 Madrid 0-1 or AC 0-2??? - no, but am I delighted to still be in the hat??? abso-fuckin-lutely, we deserved to go thru, and we certainly deserve some friggin luck after the fucking unbelieveable shit we've suffered since Eddie got his leg smashed to bits last year and that includes the penalty decisions against L'pool in the CL home and away!

It's also quite possible IMO that the fact that things always seem to go against us has affected the team cos we seem to get very harshly punished for everything we do wrong, so again IMO the events of tonite might actually have a more positive effect than some might think!

Sounds like your looking forward to us getting knocked out (was it that many pints was it  ) or have i got that totally wrong?

You sound pissed off because we qualified?

Why not celebrate a win? (Cardiff 2005 we were shit and outplayed, do you care? i dont)

We all know were below par, does that mean we shouldnt celebrate?

ARE YOU RADFORD IN DISGUISE?

Yes Bren.

Goodluck with that march to the final and the Cardiff memories, except, oh yes I know I'm right here, we are still no where near the final are we? Just scraped into the Quarter Finals isn't it?

Fair fucks to you'se who are loving it. I used to love a good win once in a while but we are really asking for two more against the odds. Shit I'd rather not pray for that shit. People here tonight think we're in the final and others are being very very romantic. Good luck chaps.

Rather than focusing on us scraping through I rather concentrated on how shit Roma are. I know, who do I think I am? But they really were shit, and I'll say it again, we steamed em didn't we?

Hi gooners,
A real disappointment with attitudes on the forum tonight. After having to withstand such a wave of justified negativity thus far this season, surely after a nail biting two hours of european football cause for celebration can be found in both relief at a win on penalties and reknewed optimism that at least a degree of positivity can come from such an underwhelming season.

I agree with sentiments of frustration in terms of performance, they are fully deserved. However even if only for a short time gooners everywhere should be allowed to enjoy a highpoint in a mediocre campaign, whilst hoping this show of charachter can be the shot in the arm our team badly need for the fight ahead on three fronts.

The only time I would "celebrate" after such a performance is if it won us honours, or was over a close rival.

I'm tearing my hair out tonight.

I just don't get how anyone can feel flat after that :?

Penalty shoot out in the European Cup, away in Rome... and we qualified!

I know we didn't play well, but we know we can play much better than that, and with Cesc, Eduardo, Ade and Theo on their way back to fitness, we might be in better shape in the quarter finals...

it's a long shot, but you've got to be in it to win it, and thanks to some luck and good fortune, we're still in with a shout!

I'm delighted.
Well said g88ner

Obviously I'm pleased we got through and it isn't unbelievable that we can get to the final, we have beaten Chelsea and Man U this season, if we put in our Manc or Roma performance on, who is to say we can't go all the way? Delighted with the performance of Diaby and Toure, relatively pleased by the performance of Nic and the way we dominated possession, delighted with the calm way we took penalties

But like Quartz, I feel flat. Roma didn't even play that well but we had to be lucky, could easily have lost 3-0 due to penalty and if Baptista could score a sitter, or Roma didn't pick up so many injuries. We never looked like scoring and several senior players let us down last night. Hopefully this is a one off by Gallas and Sagna but Clichy, Nasri and Van Persie far from the first time they have been poor. Something that does concern me is Almunia's strengths include penalty kicks yet he seemed unprepared, didn't exude confidence and only saved one because it was hit at his prone body. My father (not an Arsenal fan) was berating him for not trying too hard, he did look like a little lifeless for the penalties

Well said Gary!

Agreed the performance was below par and the game should have been in the bank after the first leg but I do not see how you can be negative about last nights game.

That feeling when the muppet ballooned the ball over the bar is what being a Gooner is all about!

WE WON. End of. Yeah they're not a great team, but neither are juve and they took chelsea pretty close. And its a cup competition. We lost to Walsall once in a cup competition, they weren't better than us! We lost to Liverpool last year being the better team.IT DOESN'T MATTER.

A result is a result, and I'm really chuffed tonight. So for all those who want to celebrate winning, post your jubilation here, we're on our way to roma :barscarf: :barscarf: .... again
Radford has not had the time to gon on the officials but he agrees with this post. we are through end fucking of.
