The flag does say 'United colours of Arsenal'. The idea was taken from a flag that appeared in the Clock End towards the end of our Highbury Days. That flag prompted more positive response than any other over the years in our inbox etc.
Of course the other factor in using this theme was the ridiculous national flag ban. We don't want to see just one flag we want to see them all. Arsenal and its support have always been generally the most diverse in London / Uk and we felt that this was / is / and always be a benefit to us.
We have had to work v hard with stadium management on this, as you know they were not overly keen. In their defence I think this was more to do with the fact that Arsenal do things by the book generally and it is a Premier league ruling that these flags are not allowed. However a lot of clubs turn a blind eye to this and we have managed to persuade the club on the issue.
The flag will have to stay in our section tonight, thats part of the deal with Stadium management so hopefully the cameras will be able to pan round!
However we are trying to get it organised with Wembley on Saturday and it will no doubt move around there.
We hope this will be the first of many flags over the years to come, and we encourage people not only to put their ideas into us but to also take the initiative themselves and get things made, as we always say we don't have all the ideas. The Herd had a brilliant flag made in tribute to The Bear recently for instance.
Someone made a comment about the flag not representing our history etc. However we do have a large flag already for this with 'History, Class, Tradition' along the top, the 1930's crest in the middle, and Pride of London along the bottom. We will be bringing this to wembley on saturday as well.
Anyway I've just dropped into the forum before going to the pub, so maybe my secretary Goonerben can handle any other queries
