ALEX SONG:THE REVELATION

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

i agree he does not have a bad first touch. its not as good as RVPs but its not bad. he also isnt slow its just his posture that makes it look like he is. he is very strong and works extremely hard. i have been more than impressed with him recently and i can only hope AW stays with the 4-4-2 with just him and Fabregas in the middle and fuck Denilson to the bench.

i was not a fan of Song's at all earlier this season, in fact i didnt like him at all but through performances like these he has turned my opinion around.

Song really has won me over, he can't dominate a game, (I.E. like Wigan last week) but he was tremendous tonight, let's get behind him and kick on. I was one of his worst critics but we have him, Wenger will play him, so what's really left at the moment?

Ok, I'll give you a reasoned explanation as to why you are fucking on one. I'm fighting hard not to riddicule your nonsencical gibberish seeing as it is so fucking easy.
MickeyFabs wrote:I still think that ultimately Diaby will be the best defensive midfielder out of the current crop of youngsters that we have
MickeyFabs wrote:Diaby played both games in CM against Roma
Can you see the contradiction here? If not, it's where you first say Diaby will be our best DM, the in some irrelevant segway support this nonsence by quoting him as a CM. C,D they are after each other in the alphabet but make all the difference to the point you are trying :?: to make.
MickeyFabs wrote:we normally play with 2 CM's in the middle of the park
Shit even Craig Burley will tell you, one sits one stays. If you have been supporting Arsenal for even the smallest length of time you can conceed that this is what made Vieira/Petit the greatest midfield pairing in our club's history. Somehow I doubt it.
MickeyFabs wrote:Diaby will be the best CM out of him, Song and Denilson

Whoops another contradiction. Do you even know what point you are trying to make?
MickeyFabs wrote:Gilberto and Flamini played alongside Fabregas, not behind him. An anchor sits in front of the defence and behind the CM's.
MickeyFabs wrote:To suggest that Fabregas cannot be an attacking CM as he plays alongside a DM means that you are chatting shit!

It's getting to be a familiar scenario here wouldn't you agree? Your contention :?: Has more holes in it than Adebayor's hair net.

When you at least reach teen years think of a reasoned arguement and stick with it. Don't leave yourself open to ridicule. I really didn't want to do this. But I had to. You will learn from it. 8)

I still think we need to sign a top quality DM to help us win the title not just finish 4th.Song has done well no doubt.
As for Denilson now Cesc is back cant see him starting many games

His poor first touch and his slowness is what puts him in trouble all the time. Only in the Wigan game he gave away two silly free kicks that could well have cost us because of it.

what's next...people will tell me he's not a bad passer of the ball and really there ain't much difference between him and Beckham?...I think I'm dreaming here. ...It's all good though, if so many people started to thing his become the best thing since loafs of brown bread!

An Analysis of defensive midfielders over the last 3 seasons.
A Thesis by Digger

Gilberto - got old, went bad, got sold (wasn't supposed to rhyme, but I'll try to continue )
Flamini - was average, turned good, was able to leave on a free.
Diaby - the new Vieira, broke his ankle, hasn't played a good game since
Denilson - The new Fabregas a few years ago? Went backwards last season, gone even further backwards this season (perhaps due to his insistence on never passing forwards?)
Song - hit rock bottom away at Fulham but has surprisingly bounced back (largely due to the game at Old Trafford last season)

Result:

Diaby isn't good enough, sell him
Denilson isn't good enough, sell him
Song is improving, keep him
Buy one quality player to replace Denilson and Song.

Ok I will say it....song has improved of late  However I will never ever believe that he is good enough to play for The Arsenal in the same way I dont believe that almunia will ever be good enough. For anybody to suggest that he has been our most improved player this season is ridiculous - he has played a few good games of late but has been pure shite for 90% of the season

Our refusal to sign a top quality defensive midfielder is exactly why players like rvp are questioning the ambition of the club - if we are serious about winning things again, especially the league, then this is a position that we simply must upgrade in the summer transfer window

Song has been impressive of late and would happily keep him as our second choice dm but would rather we got a better, older version this summer.

Song's improvement is quite simple really. He has discovered something called RUNNING. Before he was immobile and thought that to play as a holding midfielder all you had to do was stand in front of the back 4. Now he appears to have learnt that it involves closing people down and making tackles on them and is therefore taking the ball off them higher up the pitch so is under less pressure and can make a nice simple pass rather than a difficult one which he struggles with.

That said, maybe he is the answer one day but in the short term we need a senior player in that position (for starters you can't go through the season with only 1 guy there, discounting Denilson who isn't physically made for it). And that won't kill Song, it will let him play only some games so his confidence isn't hurt by the odd poor game and it will let him learn off a good player. Not that this will happen...

Scrolled down page 1 - Augie hasn't commented. Scrolled down page 2 - Is Augie gonna be tempted to join in?......Page 3?

Stood there last night I could only applaud how Song seems to have upped his game by 200%. Now isn't the time to analyse his good and bad. Let's just agree that in the face of criticism from 99% of us he has turned it around and was Man of the Match and hope he can continue this form.
