So when exactly can we say that Wenger should go? I feel the answer to that question depends on what you want in terms of success, and you seem quite happy to trundle along in mediocrity, surviving on past glories.Like the spuds!Andrey's Tongue wrote:Absolutely brilliant post, I agree with everything you've said there mate. Its about a football philosophy, its a long term goal, you can't just abandon it everytime there is a set back. I think some people would rather we were run like Newcastle or the spuds whereby we just sack the manager everytime we don't win every game 5-0, its fucking bollocks!Belfast Boy wrote:Sorry but I don't suscribe to that at all, and to be honest I'm fed up hearin it Villa played out of their skin for the first two thirds of the season and won numerous games 1 nil and rode their luck into the bargain, resulting in numerous threads earlier this year on that very issue, but lacking experience then inevitably ran out of steam just as we did the year before!rodders999 wrote:goonersid wrote:We would need to be at Villa Park to clap those responsible for us getting 4th placemrgnu1958 wrote:i personally think its a miracle we got 4th place..
So...clap the lads round please.
Ouch, but very true sadly. Villa capitulated.
We have had a disappointing and frustrating season but there is way too much negativity to the extent even when we do achieve somethin it's down to someone else bein more crap than we were, do you think ManUre fans are sayin that???
If L'pool hadn't drawn a shitload of games when they had the chance to show Utd a clean pair of heels or they hadn't failed to capitilise on Utd losing 3 in a row at a time which could've hardly been more critical then the Mancs would not be Champions!
The fact of the matter is this and there is no gettin away from it, we can not currently compete with any of the rest of the top 4 when it comes to transfers and wages, so the only way we stand a chance of success is to try and do it a different way which AW has and everybody knows this or should realise this, especially Gooners!
Now last year we came very very close to winnin the league and how momentous would that have been against Utd and the Chavs and all their financial power, even Stan Collymore who's hardly one of our favourites actually went out of his way on TalkShite to say that he considered AW to be a very unlucky manager!
And think about it how often when it really counts ie FA Cup final (Henchoz) Uefa Cup final (Nayim) Paris (Ref) 50th game (Riley) do we get the rub of the green - things that can turn tight games and seasons nearly always go against us???
AW has made mistakes he has admitted making mistakes, but when you have formulated a plan to succeed you can't give up every time you get a knock particularly when the plan itself requires patience due to the age of the players involved, but that youth and the experience they've gained in the past couple of years will serve the club for years to come and hopefully set the trend for the future!
I think that anyone who thinks that AW should go now needs a reality check about the standard of clubs we finished behind, and remember that he is with out a shadow of a doubt an extremely clever individual, who changed the face of the game in this country forever and when the rest caught up and overtook us purely down to spending money they don't have (which is a compliment in itself) he then tried to stay ahead again by going down the Ajax route!
I believe he will have learned a lot from his "failed experiment" but IMO it is still the direction in which we should be heading to keep the club competitive without bein Chavski, it's just all about getting the balance of the team right, but just as a thought look at Spain for the way a small but quick and skilful team can become world beaters!

Exactly, beating Chelsea 2-1 away and United at home doesnt make us the best team in England...same as losing to those teams doesnt make us the worst Arsenal team in history.Gunnersaurus wrote:It doesn't sound like he's happy to trundle along at all but sounds like he realises that sometimes you gotta take the rough with the smooth.
So how long do we give Wenger? He asked to be judged at the end of the season, and he fucked up on all fronts ie clge, 3rd place in prem and fa cup.Gunnersaurus wrote:It doesn't sound like he's happy to trundle along at all but sounds like he realises that sometimes you gotta take the rough with the smooth.
Now we are to judge in 2 years time, ffs he is taking the piss.

All arguing aside, if we find ourselves in a similar or worse position in 12 months time, what would your view be then.Belfast Boy wrote:Trundle along in mediocritygoonersid wrote: So when exactly can we say that Wenger should go? He will get however long the board give him (which is a job for life if he wants it) they all know the score after chosing to move so they all know how he has to work (with regards to trying to build a team as opposed to buying one)
One last point, we don't give him any time, they do, we can all rant and rave about it but they will know what the ultimate goal is and I doubt they will even be thinking about what you want.

So some people want us to get rid of AW
So what happens next season when manure or the chavs win the league cos they spent £30m each on a couple of players. We sack our new manager and get another one ?
The thing I hate most about manure and chav fans is most of them are glory hunters. But what is the difference between them and a fan who wants to sack our manager and insult our players when if don't win the league ?
I want us to win the league and CL but only 1 team can win them so when manure win it this year should chavs, l pool and Arsenal sack there manager ? Every year 3 of the big 4 sack their manager.
There is a dark side of me that loves supporting a team that aint won anything in a while. I can stick my chest out and say "Arsenal are my club through thick and thin, I aint here just for the cups"
When we do win something (soon I hope) it will taste so much better for the wait.
Tin hat on ready to be shot at by lots of our 'fans' on here.

If people shout loud enough the board will eventually listen, and if we stop having a rant on here then we would surely go insane.

Is anybody else sick and tired of this debate. Its a dialogue of the deaf. Gonnersid isn't going to convince any of the AKBs and vice versa. I must have read the same arguments a thousand times in the last month and its doing my head in! Go and look at some of the funny stuff in the basement and chill out FFS!

Not a chance, this current board love Wenger, they are not so fickle.
They have made it difficult for him in the last 4 years while they get richer and he takes the flack for them.

Taking the rough with the smooth is one thing; slowly going backwards compared to your rivals is another. Wenger set the standards, now he is failing to live up to them. And the reason he is not living up to them is due to some basic, obvious errors on his part.
And whilst I accept everyone makes mistakes and it is perhaps unrealistic to expect him to continue to find the Vieira’s and Henry’s of the world at low prices, what I can’t accept is the poor attitude of the players he does put on to the football pitch.
There was a time when the players played with passion and pride, were born winners and didn’t mind sticking it to the opposition. We would thrive in adversity.
Not any more. When we step against United tomorrow, I’d rather see a mass brawl on the pitch, with our players right in Rooney/Ronaldo’s faces ala Keown and Vieira from the past, as opposed to passing it round for 20 minutes, going a goal behind, heads dropping and being the support cast for a title party. At least it would show that they are hurting and won’t just accept being second best without a fight.
