As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Not possible. As with most bank loans, there is a large penalty for paying off debts before you're meant to. We're stuck with the debt for the fixed term, but I'm not so worried about that as I was.

That I don't mind but things like copyrighting Gooner without saying why and various times we hear fans complaining about something the board has done.
Ok fair enough that we can't spend it on repayment.
Anyone know where the Arsene quote "Can we pretend to be poor, it would make transfers easier" originated from? Heard it a lot in connection to his news but not seen it in print myself

You'll have to explain that one Tone
Can't be arsed to go through the archives, but there have been many examples of him talking sense (or, if looked at another way; agreeing with me ). He is very strong willed and won't go along with popular consensus just to avoid a disagreement, which I respect.
With that said, I've got to say that I do disagree with him here. There's a first time for everything, I guess
I still dislike our current board for many reasons, most of them due to their treatment of us the fans. We seem to have made AFC one of the wealthiest clubs on the planet, and yet treat us like a rabble of dirty oiks.
Hill-Wood seems very happy and smug with our current financial position (quite rightly so !), and has been lording it in the press about what great business people they are.
But correct me if I'm wrong, our current accumulated wealth has been generated due to the move to Ashburton Grove, agreed ?
Well I seem to remember Hill-Wood, Lady Nina Diamond Rings, Fitzman et-al being opposed to that move, saying it would cost too much etc.
It was Dein and Wenger who FOUGHT the board for the move.
Now this move is paying huge dividends, and PHW etc seem to be taking the credit for this stroke of business genius.
It is David Dein who is responsible for our new found wealth.
I'm not saying that the board are doing a bad job however, I am just of the opinion that Dein is the man to lead us onwards and upwards into the 21st century.

Sorry buit you are wrong ... David Dein wanted us to move to Wembley, which was at odds with the rest of the board and therefore can take no credit for our current position.
I used to support DD, until the last round of (hostile ?) shares buying at inflated prices .. and all without requesting a meeting with the current board and explaining what their intentions are ... that is a move that could destabilize the club, and was the last straw for me.
No matter how good DD has been for Arsenal, his time is gone now, and we need to move forward. DD is now merely a whoismanov puppet, and is no longer capable of independent opinions.
I say, resist the alien invasion, if it means a single ownership of arsenal .. whoismanov, silent stan, et al, can invest as long as they fit in within the current multi-ownership of the club.
As to our moving up to our place amongst the greatest clubs in europe, I think this can be easily doen with the revenue the club earns now ... we just all need to convince AW to invest.

Can I just clarify my position for those who are imo as one eyed as myself(except they are looking through the other eye obviously) :
I am very much in the pro Dein camp but I fully acknowledge that his return to Arsenal is highly unlikely given his latest moves. His decision to hitch his caravan to usmanov has had a huge backlash by the fans(the only people that really matter here) and as long as he has ties with him he will never be accepted back by the fans and while I do want him back I can certainly agree with most fans on this point. However I will "fight his corner" on other matters with those ungrateful sods who wish to dismiss his huge contribution over the years be those opinions from fans or board members and I still believe that his return alone would be better long term for the fans.
Another point I oppose is that some fans are going 100% behind the board cos of opposition to kroenke & usmanov. In my opinion its like saying I love hleb cos he is better than mcgoldrick was or I loved cygan cos he was better than stepanovs was and that mentality isnt enough for me. The board should be judged on their own merits and not those of the opposition and I really really believe that they are no longer the right people to lead the club forward. It is all very well pointing to the great financial accounts but as I stated yesterday we are bringing in money through transfers not spending it and the price of our match tickets are in all likelyhood the dearest in europe but that fact seems to have been forgotten. It is all well & good comparing our profits with real madrid but profits are worked out by deducting money spent from income and we are not spending on squad improvments and all summer long this fact has been accepted by all members on this forum. For the last few seasons when I have complained re lack of spending I have been told by all & sundry that we had not got the money to spend despite claims to the contrary by wenger & the board but now it appears that these same fans say we have money but Arsene is choosing not to spend it ?? It doesnt stack up for me and lets be honest it wouldnt be beyond the manager or board to tell white lies now & again. The fact is we are now in a healthy position financially cos we have lived on scraps for the last 2 seasons and results have shown this and we all know it. If we were to invest the money necessary to allow us to be top dogs in europe then I would suggest our financial position would be seriously weakened and in my opinion it suggests yet again that we need outside investment. From my position everything the club is doing and saying points to us sustaining our current position both financially and playing wise but doesnt suggest how we will step up that level to be europes biggest club. If we were not lucky enough to have Arsene Wenger as our gaffer we would without doubt be spending more money than we now are and then we need to ask if we are in a position to do this financially not just now but next season and the season after that etc and it is doubtful.
So in summation I'd would like to say this...oppose usmanov if you wish(I know I do) but do not mistake this as an endorsement of our current board because there is a world of difference and I hope we dont have to hit the skids for some to find that out.
augie wrote:Call me mule headed(i've been called a lot worse) if you like but I would still prefer DD(but not the russian) running our club over the current board. Yes I accept that the financial records are impressive but didnt we all say that they would be. I mean that it is not to hard to understand why when you look at the transfer activity over the past few seasons when we have seen more players going out (and quality players at that) than coming in. There has been a suggestion put forward by many fans over the last 2 months or so that the board wanted to hold off on any further player investment until the impressive accounts were released as their own share prices would increase and lets be honest here it is not a big leap to draw that conclusion is it ?
David Dein who was AGAINST the hugely succesful Emirates move
DD who has been a totally unsuccesful business man
made all his money out of arsenal
and is living off doing a job he was paid for by the club
he was a paid employee when he hired wenger
his job was to get the best manager
he did it
he was hugely well paid for doing it at the time
he has now made £75M profit selling out to a rapist gangster
