I'm not underestimating Man City, they have invested a lot of money already (over 180 million pounds in the last two years), but I think it will take them longer than it took Chelsea.
My thoughts exactly. I agree that Chelsea were pretty much ALREADY in the top 4 when Roman took over. This isn't a game of Fifa 2009 on your Xbox - that's why I reckon for 2 seasons at least, City will not finish in the top 4 so fuck them.

Here we go again, another day - another day of people adament we will finish mid-table, the transfer window has been open about 5 minutes!

Lets reserve judgement until Wenger has reshuffled the squad a bit which im sure he will do, and I know it might upset a lot of you here but the players he brings in are unlikely to be expensive and household names - but has he ever really predominantly brought in players like that?

City have bought an average midfielder for a lot of money, no doubt they will buy more - but does that make them contenders for the top 4? Spuds spent nearly £80m last season remember!!! A lot of players have joined clubs for a lot of money, it doesnt gurantee anything.

Im with Swale on this one, people like to overlook the fact we had to show a lot of character to get 4th last season, especially after that period around the Villa defeat at home - but we did it. Yes we know its not enough for a club like ours and I for one would like to see some improvement, but it took a lot of character from the team when a lot of fans began to turn their back on them.

As for City, lets see shall we - a lot of people bleat on about "experience" - City have none of that - look at how Villa buckled under the pressure this season - and if there is one club that will be under pressure next year it will be them if they are splashing the dough around. Whats more, the only players they will attract will be ones after a nice big paycheque, generally speaking not the ones that will exactly ones to knuckle down and fight for you.

Agree with you Flash.

I think City are an interesting prospect, but Im not overaly bothered about them to be honest.

Im more interested to see how long Hughes will last there, I honestly thought he was a goner after not getting Europe, but it doesnt seem to be the case.

City have some good youngsters, I rate Micheal Johnson (albiet he hasnt played for a year) and that Sturridge lad, wonder what chances of first team football they will get now?

It was in the papers yesterday that Sturridge was joining Chelsea, more paper talk probably

You should be bothered about Man City!

Three days into the summer transfers and already they've signed a highly rated player. There's a lot of time left for them to improve further before the end of August and only the most arrogant of fools would think they're lofty space is secure.

Yeah saw that about Sturridge to Chelsea, Strikers is not something we need at the moment in my opinion so I cant see us being involved in the shake up for him -but very good player and will probably be moving on.

City had some very good players last year Robinho, Bridge, SWP, Given that geezer from Hamburg whose name I forget! They wernt in the shake up, even for the Europa league, and I personally dont think they will be in the top 4 next season, regardless of what money they spend. They will not attract the top, top players - Berbatov (albeit by being mugged at the airport) and Arshavin to name 2 have given them the swerve.

Barry has yet to prove himself at the very top level, look at Robbie Keane - reasonable at mid-table level but the pressures playing for a top club are different - im not saying he wont succeed there, im just saying its not a foregone conclusion he will turn city around.

I think Everton will be the ones to watch again, good club and good manager.

Have to agree that Everton are more of a worry than Man City, not that im worried by Everton either, i think we are far stronger than any of the clubs outside the top four and therefore am not too worried about us slipping out of it

Everybody was getting all nervous about it this season and we proved we were more than strong enought to take fourth place, i definately think we will be reinforcing the team this summer so will only get stronger so i see the top four being the same again next season, in what order who knows?!

Swale man, your words are setting you up for an almighty fall.

Considering Villa won only 2 of their last 13 PL games, you have no hesitation to offer the opinion that we were more than strong enough to take fourth place.

And you are not worried by Man City or Everton.

Then see the top four being the same but in what order?

News flash man, you may jumble the top three about but not the top 4 and not us. Not now. Not until the summer is over and our serious faults have been addressed. Cos if they ain't, 4th is the absolute height of our ambition.

This is what i dont get - villa won 2 of their last 13, so over 38 games they were not good enough for 4th place.

Over 38 games - WE WERE!

Nothing to do with capitualtions, league table doesnt lie, same as we were not good enough this year to finish above 4th.

From football365 s mailbox :-

It's not as if City have stopped shopping. If they're in for Tevez they may get him, they may not, but we can be sure they've got 25 million to spend on a striker. We can assume they've got a bit of cash for a centre-back too if the rumours of a pursuit of Lescott are to be believed. Who knows how much more they've got. Even If these two signings (or similar) come off they'll be able to field this team:

GK - Given
RB - Richards
CB - Lescott
CB - Kompany
LB - Bridge
DM - De Jong
DM - Barry
AM - Ireland
RF - Wright-Phillips
LF - Robinho
CF - Tevez

That's quite a bit better than Arsenal if I'm not very much mistaken.
