It was everything to do with that.Bendtners Drinking Buddy wrote:This is what i dont get - villa won 2 of their last 13, so over 38 games they were not good enough for 4th place.
Over 38 games - WE WERE!
Nothing to do with capitualtions, league table doesnt lie, same as we were not good enough this year to finish above 4th.
Something happened to Villa, something inexplicable. We were very fortunate to get fourth this year and the signs are that it is going to be even harder next year. Don't forget, the spuds went on an incredible run after One-day left them and only just missed out on a spot in Europe themselves.
Any person on here that thinks 4th is a cert next season needs to take a reality check. All those around us are getting stronger. Currently, and I say that because we may strengthen during this window, we are not!
Don't sit back and rest on your laurels. It can happen and the likelyhood of it doing so is nearer now than at any time in the last 15 years.

I agree we need to strengthen the squad, certainly at the back as ive always said.
Villa couldnt cope with the pressure could they? Happenned with the Spuds in 2006 and the same thing is possible with City if they were to challenge (which is premature IMO).
Lucky to get 4th? Dont agree, the gap was huge between us and 5/6, and we had a fantastic league run when everybody said it was out of our reach - we had no room for error and had to deliver under extreme pressure - have to give the boys credit where it is due!!
I do agree that nodoby is certain of a top four finish, thats football - Newcastle, Leeds, West Ham were never going to get relegated, funny old game!!

sorry just to add, Everton finished 4th didnt they.....but they could not sustain it. It shows how a) its difficuclt to get there and b) even more difficult to sustain that level. We are a club that have realistic ambitions of top 4 football every season, not assurances obviously, but we have been in the top for for over a decade now - its amazing when you think about it. No, it doesnt constitute success, but it is a good platform.
Oh brother, a team that went from 4th in the table to relegation form of 2 wins from 13. How often does that happen in a league season? If you believe the above blanket statement covers the exact occurances which led us to 4th spot, you're in for the same rude awakening as Swale down the line. The stark realities of what really happened last season are lost on you two.Bendtners Drinking Buddy wrote:This is what i dont get - villa won 2 of their last 13, so over 38 games they were not good enough for 4th place.

If Villa had even mid table form of 6 wins from 13, they'd have pipped us.

Oh thats good isnt it, anyone can add players to a team and say how great they will be... Arsenal can win the league by 20 points next season if our team isRob wrote:From football365 s mailbox :-
It's not as if City have stopped shopping. If they're in for Tevez they may get him, they may not, but we can be sure they've got 25 million to spend on a striker. We can assume they've got a bit of cash for a centre-back too if the rumours of a pursuit of Lescott are to be believed. Who knows how much more they've got. Even If these two signings (or similar) come off they'll be able to field this team:
GK - Given
RB - Richards
CB - Lescott
CB - Kompany
LB - Bridge
DM - De Jong
DM - Barry
AM - Ireland
RF - Wright-Phillips
LF - Robinho
CF - Tevez
That's quite a bit better than Arsenal if I'm not very much mistaken.

Yes they had a poor run of games towards the end of the season which shows they didnt have what it takes to finish in the top 4...AND WE DID there is no real argument there is there, that is the factNumber 5 wrote:Oh brother, a team that went from 4th in the table to relegation form of 2 wins from 13. The reality is that we finished fourth by a considerable number of points!Number 5 wrote:Oh brother, a team that went from 4th in the table to relegation form of 2 wins from 13. That doesn't look too shabby to me, if they get Eto'o aswell then it would be even stronger.Rob wrote:From football365 s mailbox :-

What! the turnaround from being so close to winning it last year to scrapping with Villa for fourth this year.Bendtners Drinking Buddy wrote:Exactly number 5 - IF
IF we had won 3 more games this season we would have been 3rd, IF we had won 3 more games last season we could have won the league - but we didnt!!
Give the team some credit for the turnaround!
Massive credit due there.

yes but its all things that havent happened!! if Pele and Maradonna suddenly were in their prime again and played for us we would be a better team! but it hasnt happened!Gunnersaurus wrote:That doesn't look too shabby to me, if they get Eto'o aswell then it would be even stronger.Rob wrote:From football365 s mailbox :-
