I think sitting in the front 10 or so rows in East lower when it was raining heavy was the only time i ever remember at highbury or any other ground not wishing i was further back under cover, as much as i loved Highbury the East lower was probably the worst designed stand in the history of football not just the pillars, if you were anywhere near the back you couldn't see the ball when it went above head height and in the early nineties with us that meant you missed most of the game.JohnGoon wrote:I'm not bothered about the clock being in the stadium arena, I loved Highbury but it's gone. The thing that annoys me is that where they've put it seems like an afterthought in that you don't get a clear view wherever you are, there's always a pillar in the way (it's like being back in the East Lower). Im sure it's too big for the museum but they could put in one of the bigger stadium receptions, like they've done with Chapman's bust

It wasn't built for sitting originally. Terraces were on both lowers!Bergkamp-Genius wrote:I think sitting in the front 10 or so rows in East lower when it was raining heavy was the only time i ever remember at highbury or any other ground not wishing i was further back under cover, as much as i loved Highbury the East lower was probably the worst designed stand in the history of football not just the pillars, if you were anywhere near the back you couldn't see the ball when it went above head height and in the early nineties with us that meant you missed most of the game.JohnGoon wrote:I'm not bothered about the clock being in the stadium arena, I loved Highbury but it's gone. I'm not talking about the very front where the JG's used to be but the main part of the lower tier. The angle of the stand was originally less so fans could stand undercover.
This is a great cause & i'd love to see the clock back in it's rightful place in the ground, but i'd hate to see "Ebel" logos plastered all over it. It would seem like the club were whoring out one of our most iconic pieces of history to make a couple extra quid.alanalansunderland wrote:If I was being really cynical then the selling of the timing rights might have been compromised if there was another Clock in the ground? Although again I feel this would have been very short sighted as Ebel could quite easily have had their name on an iconic piece of football history, surely a good marketing ploy for them?
Were there to be any qualms over timing rights, i'd really hope Ebel would do the decent thing & waive their sponsorship rights for this, just like Nike did recently for the proposed designs in the seats.

It supposedly due to champions league advertising

Even though other clubs do it!

Used to love it in the schoolboys enclosure, in the bigger games the North Bank 'top side' could actually hear our songs, and we even had surges when we played Liverpool!Boomer wrote:It wasn't built for sitting originally. Surely when they were changing it they must have realised how limited your viewing pleasure was going to be if you were unlucky enough to be stuck in the back half of it, i always felt sorry for anyone who had a season ticket in that area, i still can't believe that sometimes i was that desperate to get in, that on occasion i actually payed money to miss the vast majority of the game from the back row of the east lower.Boomer wrote:It wasn't built for sitting originally. i think new stadium is a sign of modern AFC...Clock End belong to Highbury and his famous history is past...bringing The Clock is this ultra-modern curves-shaped stadium is a little be forced...seems to me try to bring history where history needs to be made...real problem, as i think, is Highbury's remembrance will never totally forgot and this is a good thing but it's time to go on...you can abandon any thoghts about North Bank and Clock End...glorious times, someone good known, that never can come back...

i thinked it was a real silenced Clock, any seconds passed would it sound blast the stadium...for chanting crowds you don't need a famous Clock but simply stand up and scream loud as it possibleolgitgooner wrote:Personally, I'm not fussed about the clock being inside the stadium.
But I'd LOVE to see clearly defined Clock End and Northbank areas.

I think the clock being inside the ground will define a clock end so its important its inside and will help with the things you wantolgitgooner wrote:Personally, I'm not fussed about the clock being inside the stadium.

Knowing the club they'll probably hang it over the half way line...flash gunner wrote:I think the clock being inside the ground will define a clock end so its important its inside and will help with the things you wantolgitgooner wrote:Personally, I'm not fussed about the clock being inside the stadium.

Well done RedAction on this one - I thought the "Don't boo Cashley" and the "Wenger can do no wrong" march ideas were top rated shite TBH but this is a great idea.
