KARNIVOOL!

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Oh so so difficult!

You have to understand that Karnivool can't really be compared to any well known bands purely because they are so different to mainstream music.

They're very experimental and push boundaries with the the complexity and so forth of their sound.

But to give it a go, I can maybe name two...

1. Meshuggah - A Swedish group who are always listed amongst the 'Vool's biggest influences. Meshuggah are incredibly complex and so naturally comparisons are drawn. Karnivool experiment with time signatures and tuning etc but Meshuggah do it so much more. Plus Meshuggah are a heavier band with a very different vocal style. (Meshuggah have a scream/growler, while Karnivool's singer is just...brilliant...he has another band, and listening to them you can hear how well he can adapt his voice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M81eUTat ... re=related)

2. They draw a lot of comparisons with Tool. Again for the complexity and the fact that they stray so far from conventionality. Personally I think its hard to compare the two because Tool are so truly unique, but so many people do I might as well mention it here.

DB10, the only way to understand is to listen. 8) If you haven't watched any of the videos so far, at least watch this one:

I implore you. :)

Not feeling it bro! sorry!

I've given them a good listen, and I'm not overly impressed to be honest.

But yes, Australia has some good bands.... 'My Happiness' by Powderfinger was a decent tune... and lets not forget INXS 8)

Ok...maybe you'll like the new stuff...after its out and some tracks are on youtube I'll post one for you. Very different is the new album. Much more progressive and not as heavy.

Powderfinger! Oh no...no no no no...bit of a wankfest aren't they?

Some good Aussie bands would include Mammal, Dead Letter Circus, The Butterfly Effect, Birds of Tokyo (same vocalist as Karnivool), Gyroscope, The Living End are ok too...

If you're into Pop/Rock give Birds of Tokyo a listen.

Now....in a final attempt to appeal to the place deep within all of you with which top quality music truly does resonate, I'm posting some tracks from the new album. Please listen to them (if only one track in full!). :D

If you listen to them and still can't accept the brilliant musicianship behind them, then I will give up, and aside from the occasional post will forfeit my attempt to convert your damned souls - I will leave you alone, unable to experience the bliss that is Karnivool.
