It would be ridiculous if we let RVP leave, we should be fighting tooth and nail to keep him.
We haven't got a big enough squad to let anyone leave. All we should be focusing on is bringing players to the club.
We're always moaning amount the size of our squad yet on here some people seem to be happy to let almost anyone go.
Eboue, Diaby, Song, Toure, RVP, even a couple of people have suggested selling Cesc woudln't be a bad idea.
RVP has been at the club for a long time, he knows what it is about. I get the impression he does generally give a shit about Arsenal, the fans, etc. All he wants is to see guantees that we will be signing the players that will allow us to challenge. I don't think that is too much to ask.
On his day he is a world class talent that can win any game, we can't afford to let someone like that leave.

Sometimes I wish Thierry was still around or another quality striker like Eto'o so players like Robin realise that he is not the 'big cojones' he thinks he is.

And he wants to win the league with 24games and 11goals, now that really puts Thierry record into perspective

Agreed. There was a lot of bollocks spoken when TH14 left about how he had been intimidating the younger players who were in awe of him etc. Well so they fucking should be. When any of this underachieving bunch of lightweights have achieved half as much as he has maybe then we'll understand when they start thinking about a big move to one of the leading clubs. Pack your bags son - too many at this club have pissed us around with contract negotiations in the past couple of yearsGunnerDude wrote:PL startsfranksav63 wrote:http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... n-Utd.html

thats about right. besides the rumour does he really deserve £80,000 for 79 starts and never scoring up to 15goals in the PL(i bet AA does that in his first full season).

I dont think he has done enough to earn 80k a week.So if someone comes in with a bid of £20m i would sell.Didnt we learn anything when we gave into Greedys demands after one good season. And also his injury record is poor except for last season.

This team is growing and needs to stay togather, shipping out a large number of the current squad is not the answer, that puts us back to square one!
Hello, is that Arsene Wenger there ? So, you would like to keep all of the players together regardless of whether they actually want to still play for the club or not. We all saw how Ade got down to business last year after signing a new dealSwale_Gooner1985 wrote:Yes thats right, pack your bags and go!SteveO 35 wrote:Agreed. that is not what we need is it? should he take Eboue, Adebayor, Gallas, Diaby and Bendtner with him? we need to hold on to our prize assets and Van Persie is certainly one of them

Van Persie hasnt expressed his desire to move away from the club, and neither have any of the others?! Adebayor has been perceived as saying that, but has he actually said it? the fact is this squad needs to stay together, its just needs a few additions!SteveO 35 wrote:Hello, is that Arsene Wenger there ? I think this is a load of old poppyc0ck, just the Sun trying to stir something up because they cant bear not to go a day without running a Man United Story.
Playing Devils advocate, i could see why Robin would consider his options - he is 25 and probably has 5 - 8 years left and he wants to win things, and we are not guaranteed that. Players are not true gooners like us, football isnt like that anymore and his career is probably the most important thing.
However, I believe he wants to stay a Gunner and help us win things - the signing of Arshavin plus a few others coupled with the quality we already have should be enough to convince anyone.

I certainly agree with you on that point and I am not in favour of a mass clear out. However, no one is bigger than the club and amongst a team of young players we do not need anyone who doesn't want to be here. Most of them are rarely stupid enough to say outright that they actually want to leave (and even if they do their agents cover it up for them claiming they are misquoted)....but that actually doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't thinking it. Sometimes it's more what they don't say - in fairness to Cesc he is making lots of positive noises about his love for the club and the responsibility he feels, where as with RvP we hear lots of quotes like "money isn't everything" etcSwale_Gooner1985 wrote:Van Persie hasnt expressed his desire to move away from the club, and neither have any of the others?! I could also see why rvp would question where the club is going as he wants to win things and I would go so far as saying that more of our players should be questioning things instead of just grabbing the wonga and running. I also would not contemplate selling him to the mancs and I think the club would take a similar stance and like everybody else I reckon this story is a load of bullshit. However, and I have said this before, I would be willing to sell him to inter if they came in with an offer of 20m or more and I think it would be a great piece of business if the money was invested in a quality replacement.
Swale, I know that we have clashed over many aspects of events around the club but defending greedybayor ??
Are you seriously suggesting that you dont think that he has done his best to engineer a move last summer ?

The phrase "we need to keep this squad together" is what these player are using to hold the club to ransome.
The fact that a player doesn't produce but because he is better than most of the others doesn't give him the right to demand new signings(see who we sign before he signs) thats abit fresh coming from someone who hasnt played many matches but wants to win.
I like Robin like any other but atleast Ade scored 30goals to get a contract.
Btw its about time someone else takes some of the freekicks, Cristiano has scored more from distance than Robin has from the edge of the box. Nasri can and should be allowed to.

Adebayor has been perceived as saying that, but has he actually said it? the fact is this squad needs to stay together, its just needs a few additions!
Adebayor, who played in a Unicef charity game in Seville this week, was quoted in the Barcelona-based newspaper El Mundo Deportivo stating that he would be "delighted" to play for the Catalan club if ever they reached an agreement to sign him from Arsenal. "There is no player who can say no to Barcelona," he was quoted as saying. "I don't know whether it would happen now or in two years or in 10, but I would love to play there. Perhaps things will change tomorrow. I don't know.
"For now, I have to wait. It would make me very happy to play for Barcelona. It is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I cannot close the door because I don't know what will happen tomorrow. It would be a thing between the two clubs and we would see what would happen because Arsenal would ask for a lot of money and it remains to be seen if Barcelona are going to pay it. First they will have to reach an agreement. What would attract me? A lot of things. If Barcelona make an offer for me and reach an agreement with Arsenal, I would be delighted to go and play there."
The striker, who scored 30 times last season, later said to other media at the game in Seville that it was merely "flattering" to have been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Milan. "But for the moment I'm very happy at Arsenal," he added.
and...
Adebayor described Wenger as "like a father to me" but sounded ready to end the relationship with his manager. "He put me where I am today, no doubt about that," the Togo international said. "But if he sells me, and what they are saying in the newspapers is right, they are going to get €50m (£39.5m), maybe €60m for me and they bought me for €10m. So everyone is getting benefits. They have to make a good decision and I have to make a good decision as well."
Wenger has said that he does not want the striker to leave the club and the Milan vice-president, Adriano Galliani, admitted this week that it did not look as if Arsenal were going to sell. "When there's a contract and the club who owns him says no, then it's no," he said.
Adebayor, however, appears confident that he can persuade Wenger to cash in on him. "I had a dream of playing for Arsenal and Arsenal are one of the loveliest clubs in the world," he said at an event organised by his boot supplier, Adidas. "When I go back to Africa it is obvious that a lot of people love the club. But now I have a chance of playing with one of the biggest clubs in the world. I haven't had a chance to speak to the manager yet. But we will sit down next week and decide what is good for my career."
mmmm......

He scored 20 goals from 38 starst last seaosn, and I think he set up more goals than anyone else in the Premier League. He does produce. Not just at club level but at international level as well.GunnerDude wrote:The phrase "we need to keep this squad together" is what these player are using to hold the club to ransome.

Even the season's before he produced when he played, it was just that injuries denied him more starts.
And he's not holding the club to ransom. I bet he could go to any other club and get much more than the reported £80,000 we're offering him.
