Why dont we go for Tevez?

I'm not so sure that he would.

His goalscoring average isn't that great even if he does play every game. It's not like he didn't play at all this season, he started more games than Bendtner and only managed to score half the goals.

He scores about 1 goal in 3 starts. Van Persie scores 1 in 2, Adebayor 1 in 2, Bendtner more than 1 in 2 etc.

And it's not like he makes up for it with creating a massive amount of goals for others.

Personally I think he's not nearly as good as people think he is. That's not to say that he's a bad player though. But not anywhere near worth the asking price.

Last season (07/08 ) Tevez played 34 league games, scoring 14 goals and providing 6 assists... those stats would have made him TOP GOALSCORER at Arsenal this season... and his workrate would have helped out our midfield more than Ade, that's for sure!

One could argue that for a first season at a club, those stats aren't bad... and I would imagine that he would have improved on those stats this season had ManUre not had Rooney, Berbatov and Ronaldo keeping him on the bench.

I don't think he's the type of player we need, and I'm not saying we should sign him.... but I do think he would score goals in this team IF played centrally. He played centrally for West Ham, and finished the season on fire... scored a decent amount for ManUre in his first season, and scored 31 in 52 for Corinthians. He's only scored 8 in 50 for Argentina, though... that said, he's used more on the left, I think.

Anyway, we need a Torres type, ideally!

because we shouldnt have a player who is uglier than Martin Keown, its just not right. Its like bringing in another alcoholic who drinks more than Adams

he started 10 more games last season than van Persie did this season though.

And??

14 goals in 34 or 11 in 24... does it really matter? other than getting bogged down with the minute difference in goals per game ratio, does it change my point?

I genuinely believe that Tevez would score goals IF played centrally. Unfortunately for him, he's a victim of his own versatility and is often played deeper or on the left.... whereas, as you know, the lack of versatility of Van Persie and Ade means they generally play in their favoured central positions, and we sometimes find out to our cost, when Van Persie is played out on the left he genuinely does fuck all!

So my point is hypothetical... unless you have any stats that show Tevez' goals per game ratio when played as a striker and not on the left :D

I don't have those, but iirc he played the majority of those games centrally. Certainly did in the second half of this season, where he managed 5 goals in 18 starts (vs. 9 in 17 from Bendtner for instance, who played quite a few games on the right this season). He also didn't score a huge amount of goals for West Ham apart from the last few games of the season.

I'm not saying that he isn't a good player that would can score goals, I just think we already have better players at the club. IMO.

Also 11 in 24 is 0.45 goals per start while 14 in 24 is 0.4

I'll take your word that Tevez played centrally in most of his games this season (although I'm not convinced  )

Anyway, my point stands.... Tevez would score plenty for us!

I'm glad we're not wasting huge sums of money on Tevez who imho isn't much better than Ade or certainly not at 25.5 mill anyway. He doesn't score enough goals and united are well shot of him I feel. I'm also pleased we're not lining the pockets of his grubby agent.

  H you amaze me, after reading this post i will find it very hard to take any post you write bumming up some of our more limited players seriously, this one post has shown me that your views on our players are severely tainted by your Akb rose tinted leanings. No doubt if AW was going to buy Tevez and had said how great a player he was you would be singing his praises especially if there were some on here saying it was a bad move and AW was wrong, yet because you know this is not going to happen you are critiquing him in a way that you seem incapable of doing with our own players who deserve this kind of critique a damn sight more than Tevez does.

By all means say he is not the type of player we need or he is too expensive, but to suggest he isn't as good as the players we have or that he is as limited as you make him sound just makes your exaggerated positive views of our own players look all the more ridiculous.
