Toure's going!
When you get bombarded with 5 mins to go and you are 1-0 up, what normally happens? The ball gets punted forward to the center forward (being marked by the center halfs) with the hope that he then flicks it on and creates a chance. Of course they are not the only players that head the ball, but funnily enough your defenders do most of the defending. I am not saying the whole team needs to be 7ft tall, but two vital positions of the team, lacks height and physical presence, a cdm and a cb.burns718 wrote:NOOO we need a comanding centre half, who takes no shit, its there inability to head not there height thats the problem.
im not sayin im happy with there partnership cos i really am not, but it is not because of THERE height.
your point is when we get bombarded at the end of a game, are they therefor the only two arsenal players aloud to head the ball then, there are at least 7 players on the pitch under 6ft but you lay the blame on toure and gallas being an inch too small

but most tall people cant jump any way so by the time the guy of 6ft and the guy of 6ft 4 have jumped they will usually be at the same height anyway.
Thats a bit of a generalisation isn't it, remember we are talking about professional athletes here not the gangly stiffy's you went to school with that had no athletic ability.
If your theories were correct the worlds best high jumpers would be all smaller guys and the NBA would be full of guys of 5ft 10, but of course thats not the case.
An athletic guy of 6ft3 who is good in the air is always going to be able to dominate an athletic guy of 6ft who is good in the air, it's not rocket science, comparing a stiffy with a salmon is not going to change that..

Nothing wrong with a man comparing his stiffy with a nice piece of pink, fleshy, fishy goodness every now & then! No sir, nothing at all!

And now back to our regularly scheduled programme...

he has definatly been a passenger in some great defences over the years and therefore has not been found wanting,
great servant but not great player
I aint defending kolo when I say this but go back to start of last season and look at the goals we conceded in those first few games and look for the common denominator in all the goals......yes it was gallas

Just a bit of terminology i picked up from my jock parents.

stiffy - as in not being able to move very well

not the more common english usage meaning boner.

Tbh Rtp even if we bought Hangeland i don't think we would need him in the CL, the players we already have are more suited to the style of football we would generally come up against in europe.rtpgooner wrote:If there is any truth in the hangeland rumour, does anybody know if he plays in fulhams europa cup qualifier on thursday 30th july will he be cup tied for champions league?
I agree, but we need to be looking at a center half who IMO slots straight into our defence, who ever that is, and wenger is not going to change the defence from pl to cl. It was just a thought that if there was any truth at all in hangeland, then he would probably be left out on thursday. The same goes for other players we need. Does playing in the new europa cup qualifier, cup tie you for the champions league?

I've no idea, but your right we really should be looking for someone who is going to be the mainstay in the centre of our defence not just another squad player, but for me Hangeland isn't that guy, an option to be used when needed, i've no problem with that, but i certainly don't see him as becoming the main man in our defence, i'd rather we looked a lot higher up the quality level for that, while we have the money to do so.rtpgooner wrote:I agree, but we need to be looking at a center half who IMO slots straight into our defence, who ever that is, and wenger is not going to change the defence from pl to cl.
