Carlos Vela

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

America C side so no.

Still don't think this is going to be Vela's year but I hope for great things in two

Over here they're calling it the "B Team" just to keep the JCL's interested. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
The yanks out in Austria kept saying that too, why did they put out a weakened team?

Were the yanks 3 old men and a young guy with an Arsenal America flag?

I think they put out that team because of the confederations cup squad was tired. They just can't handle getting anhilalated by Mexico 8)

Thats not really the point anyway, the point is he is showing glimpses of the promise he has. He probably isnt ready for regular first team football but hopefully he will get the odd start and certainly a few more minutes this coming season - he clearly has talent.
Actually, no. The US team was a 3rd string team. Not even 1 starter from the Confed Cup team in it. So basically he scored, and had a good game, against a team of 20 something Americans that suck.

Because winning that cup usually means a spot in the Confed Cup, but with next year being the World Cup it had no meaning. Plus a lot of the players are already in their MLS season so there was no point to it.

Pretty much. Their major players have just played a major cup and the clubs want them back so the manager basically has to experiment with his side with domestic players

From what I hear, there were quite a few USA players that enhanced their reputation before the final but we shouldn't get overly excited that Vela played so well against a third string side.

Bit unfair that, playing 20 something players against the little Mexicans. Oh, and they still hammered ye :D

NO. Its probably because there isn't a single team near me, I think the closest team to me is in Dallas and its 700 miles away. The only time I've watched the MLS is when Freddie Ljumberg has been playing.

What pisses me off is that the media here didn't really talk about the US team being the "B-team" only until they made it to the finals against Mexico just to cover their asses.

I'm excited that Vela played well in the final. Its not that the American side wasn't strong, but that he made some good runs and had good vision. Also, I don't care who he played against the goal he scored was a good finish no matter who it was against.

Yeah, that's the 4 of them (although one of them is Canadian and one is a Brit based in Florida)
