The Patrick Vieira Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Considering Wenger's words were ambiguous at best and it was the fan's that built it up, not sure how the manager is to blame for people getting overexcited.

We need a player in his position.... Vieira was probably never the right choice (except from a motivational point of view), but we need SOMEONE, urgently!

I think the point is that Wenger could have said 'No, we won't be signing Vieira' but as usual he left it up in the air as he does with everything because he cannot be blamed when you NEVER give a definitive answer. Thanks Mr Bullshit.

Agreed Wenger could have put a stop to the Vieira rumour from day 1.With just a simple no we are not signing him, but by not doing it he kept the story running. :banghead: :banghead:

Or it could have been that there was some truth in the story but after a few days of talks etc. things just didn't work out (which I'm glad about). You seem to want to find fault in everything that Wenger does.

To be fair Andrey, that's not difficult!

I think people are just flabbergasted (oooh, I love that word! 8) ) that for such an important season, we've yet again sold more quality & experience than we've brought in.... just seems a strange way of trying to bridge the gap :? (a strategy that went disastrously wrong last season!)

I know we're supposed to believe that Arsene know's what he's doing, but that's what we hoped last season, and look what happened!

I agree with you that some people are finding fault in everything at the moment, but I can understand that, as even as a rose tinter, I'm a little frustrated, too :(

I still think we can win a major trophy, though  (terms and conditions apply)

Well gnuey. unless we get 2 WORLD CLASS experienced signings before 31/08/2009 then I'm on the same road as you young man. And if anyone dares to say 'Oh no, it'll hold back Denilson. Song, Diaby, Bendtner, Eboue etc's development............WRONG! They never will be any better than good players who can look good against mediocre Premiership sides. When the big games come around you need quality. I'm really really concerned that after 13 years our most successful manager ever is starting to annoy me. I desperately don't want to feel like this but if he doesn't buy quality then I really do fear for his relationship with the majority of the fans.

He could have done that and brutally insulted his former captain by doing so. Instead Wenger tried to be considerate to a former player's feelings

I know, most evil man alive.

So do you think that the move broke down over money then andreys tongue ? I mean what could have dragged out for a few days unless it was money cos nothing else would be up for negotiation surely ? I mean wenger would tell him what roll/position he had in mind for him and how big of a roll he would have during the season and what he expected of him - do you think that wenger would have been willing to negotiate any of those demands and if so how weak of a manager does that make him ? If he seriously considered bring PV4 back, as you claim, then money would be the only factor that would drag on for a few days and I would be amazed if the deal fell through over money
