It's one of the top stories!! Well done guysA CD which features abusive chants aimed at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has been withdrawn by Amazon.
Wenger has been a target for abuse from United supporters for years
Disgusted fans had called for a disc of Manchester United Chants to be pulled by the online retailer.
The unofficial CD included the lyrics "Sit Down You Paedophile" aimed at the French manager.
But to the surprise of the supporters, Amazon initially defended its right to sell the release on the grounds of "freedom of expression".
It took an official complaint from Arsenal - backed by Manchester United - before the site relented, dropping the offending item.
The contents of the CD have been hotly debated on supporters' forums this week, fuelling complaints which led Amazon's rival retailer Play.com to remove the product earlier this week.
We would not remove a product from our site because some, or many, people find it to be distasteful or otherwise objectionable.
Spokesperson Suzi van der Mark explains Amazon's hesitance to act
An Amazon spokesperson told Sky News Online it eventually followed suit when Arsenal provided "formal notice" that the content within the album was "defamatory in nature".
Suzi van der Mark explained that just because "some, or many, people" find a product to be "distasteful or otherwise objectionable" does not provide cause enough to remove it from sale.
"We passionately believe in freedom of expression and providing our customers with the broadest possible selection," she said.
"We believe it is censorship to make a product unavailable (because some find it offensive). We look to UK law to provide us with the guidance on what we can and cannot sell on our website."
The sick chant was audible during Arsenal's recent defeat against United at Old Trafford last weekend.
Manchester United openly stated their disgust at the offending supporters in the wake of the match.
Chief executive David Gill announced he will meet with the club's fan forum next month to discuss how to stop the problem.
The album remains on Apple's iTunes but an Arsenal spokesperson told Sky News Online that both clubs are working to have it removed from the site.

Updated Guardian article:

Amazon has withdrawn a CD of Manchester United chants from sale after Arsenal complained that it contained defamatory lyrics about Arsène Wenger.
The unofficial "Manchester United Chants" album contains a song aimed at the Arsenal manager, who has been the subject of tasteless abuse from United fans in recent years.
A statement from Amazon.co.uk reported that Arsenal had complained about the chants. It said: "Arsenal Football Club has provided us with formal notice that content within the album 'Manchester United Chants' is defamatory in nature and we have, therefore, removed this title from our website.
"We would not remove a product from our site because some, or many, people find it to be distasteful or otherwise objectionable. We believe it is censorship to make a product unavailable for those reasons."
Wenger was sent off at the end of Arsenal's 2-1 defeat against Manchester United after he kicked a water bottle in anger when the visitors had a goal disallowed. Arsenal fans complained that he was then subjected to Manchester United fans chanting, "Sit down you paedophile".
The Manchester United director of communications Philip Townsend said: "We have gone on the record several times about this disgusting chant. We don't condone it and have appealed to fans several times in the past, through supporters' groups, the matchday programme and MUTV, but to no avail."

To be fair most of the manc fans posting on that thread seem to be as offended by that chant as we are and agree 100% that it should be stopped

Just fired this off:
Thank you for not getting back to me of this issue; I see my continued loyalty to Apple products is being rewarded with stony silence.
I may be one of the few remaining fans of the compact disc, and you may see very little of my hard-earned money through your iTunes store but I am writing you this email, on my shinny apple keyboard connected to my lovely new Mac Mini. I have shunned the world of Microsoft for over five years now and as much as I love my CDs I still burn them on to itunes and transfer them to my trusty old iPod Mini. I have even been contemplating purchasing an Apple TV (and let's face it how many other people actually are?!) but I think I shall keep my hands in my pocket a little while longer now, huh?
I assume you'll cave, as Amazon have, once Arsenal's lawyers start making threats and all you'll have achieved is to annoy a loyal Apple consumer.
Be seeing you.

The man responsible for a CD album of Manchester United chants deemed defamatory by Amazon and today removed from the website has rejected the allegation, saying he would be doing everything possible to keep "Fat Willy: Manchester United Chants" on sale. He is currently working on a second album.
The unofficial Manchester United Chants album contains a song aimed at the Arsenal manager, Arsène Wenger, who has been the subject of tasteless abuse from United fans in recent years. Complaints from United and Arsenal led to Amazon removing the album, but Will Robinson contended that the "Sit down you paedophile" chant is not defamatory.
"We would certainly keep it up there because there is nothing defamatory. That track you are talking about is not directed at anybody," claimed Robinson, a music agent who represents acts such as Tony Christie and the Cheeky Girls.
When contacted by the Guardian today Robinson was unaware the CD had been withdrawn. "That is news to me," he said. "We haven't received one complaint. It has been selling well, it has been selling for quite some time, about a year.
"This is the first I've heard about it and I'm surprised and I will try and find out some more. But we will be doing all possible to keep the Fat Willy CD selling," added the Manchester United fan, who is now working on a follow-up. "It has been on sale for a year and it has done well. We are making the second album now. It's full steam ahead for Fat Willy."
Following contact from Arsenal and Manchester United, Amazon decided to remove the CD from sale. The website maintained the removal was not censorship but rather due to the defamatory nature of the content. "Arsenal Football Club has provided us with formal notice that content within the album 'Manchester United Chants' is defamatory in nature and we have, therefore, removed this title from our website.
"We would not remove a product from our site because some, or many, people find it to be distasteful or otherwise objectionable. We believe it is censorship to make a product unavailable for those reasons."
Arsenal will seek the removal of the album – which is available as a download on iTunes – from any distributors where it is on sale. "The club will actively pursue getting content removed when it is brought to our attention and will take it on a case by case basis," said a spokesman.
