Claim to Fame Thread

Post by DB10GOONER »

Like it says on the tin. What is your footballing claim to fame? I know Percy/Gus's bro was a pro player and Karel blew a few players outside West Ham ( ) but what about the rest of you?

Mine is I once played indoor football against Stephen McPhail. I say "played against" but I think "got totally outclassed by" might be a better description of that game!!

He was home on Hols from Leeds and my missus (who used to babysit him when he was a bambino and is good friends with his folks) arranged for him to "drop down for a game".

He was a really sound lad too, a good laugh - and while he didn't play too flash, he didn't patronise us by holding back either.

It really showed us the diference in class and the level you need to achieve to play in the top flight though. We had a good level game, all fairly decent footballers, but Stephen just ran rings around us, and he is rated as a mere journeyman-level footballer...

I like Stephen McPhail, ever since World Cup 2002, when he was in the Irish squad. Somehow he always ends up in my teams in FIFA Manager Mode... :barscarf:

Not much at all for me, apart from being a grandson of a friend of a good friend of Roy Keane. That's gotten me some signed merchandise.

And I saw Harry Kewell in a shopping centre once...

And outside of football, just this Saturday night, I actually met Mammal's singer, Zeke. He signed their latest album for me. :D

Tosser

I personally know Mark Noble, as we went to the same Primary & Secondary school, and I once saw Bobby Zamora in the local Sainsburys, then again at the Cinema with his bird.

Oh, and not long ago, I was with a mate driving on the A13, who was driving alongside Vahlon Behrami in his porsche. He waved when we spotted him, how exciting.

Never seen any major players though

I played for Crystal Palace girls for a bit. And my brother played football against both Shaun and Bradley Wright-Phillips at school.

I've met a few Arsenal players over the years, as well as the likes of McManaman, Ferdinand, Lampard... :x

My upstairs neighbour is called Emmanual Frimpong and er Brian Moore once asked me to sit on his lap

I played in the same youth teams as Peter Crouch, and a couple of other lower league players.

Pretty sure I played against Scott Parker once, not long after he was in some McDonalds advert.

Frank Sinclair once came to our end of season awards night to give out the trophies! Frank 'own goal hotshot' Sinclair!!! Whoopee-doo! Worse still, I'm pretty sure I thought it was big deal at the time!

As well as my brother playing for Farnborough against Arsenal at Highbury.............

I was taken on by QPR after a year on schoolboy forms and was a pro for two years. In the same team was Kevin Gallen, Bradley Allen and Danny Dichio. No huge names but all three played in the Premiership and Danny also went on to play in Italy for Sampdoria.

I have played against quite a few guys who went on to "make it" and also played in the Conference and other various senior football leagues.

Still would have swapped it all though to have walked out at Highbury.
