HENRY AND GALLAS ROB THE IRISH!!!?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I really dont uderstand the fuss - just been on the BBc Sports page and they have "Live Reaction" - nobody has died!!

I would feel agreieved if i was an Irish fan, same as I would be if it happenned against us (and his celebration really didnt help)- but they way I see it the ball hit his hand, he waited for the whistle, it didnt come, so he played on, yes it is extreme because a goal was scored, but players look to gain an advantage all the time - if they didnt there would be no need for a Ref!!!

I feel for the Irish fans, but statements like "Henry is a Cheat" "He has tarnished his reputation" are fickle and ridiculous - does anyone find its strange the media are reporting "ex Arsenal player" rather than "current Barca player"...!

Henry is an Arsenal Legend and always will be, its a shame that the media uproar from all this is going to tarnish his reputation, if he had done it against another less known country I doubt the English Press would even care.

Rooney's Dives, Owens Dive v Argentina in the WC - do they get reported as such? No, but as soon as a Foreigner does it, now matter how good he was for the English game, he is treated like a criminal - its mad!! Anelka's blatant dive just before has hardly got a mention either.

Ireland deserved to go through, but as often can be the case in football, they didnt.

Hopefully England wont even get out their group and the English Press can stop getting all ridoculous again, Alex Song and Cameroon for the WC!!!

Platini and Blatter must be loving all this, because its took the pressure off them.
It was PLATINI AND BLATTER who decided to seed the play-offs..So imo they
should take the flak.

Correct ****...it was a shocking decision to do that.

I wanted Ireland to go through, but I still dont see why Henry "Cheated"...he didnt pick the ball up and throw it in! It hit his hand and played on, same as any other player would, if it had been up the other end it would have been "luck of the Irish". Should he have gone up to the ref and explained it was hand ball? In a spur of the moment like that you'd find it hard to find many that would do that in such a big game

I feel for the Irish fans, and undertsand their emotions as im the same, as we all are, about Arsenal.... but the media reaction is way over the top.

Jaysus.

Firstly - Radford, Given the ammount of fucking childish whining you have done on here recently you should probably just shut the fuck up - you sound (read) like an irritating gobby 10 year old arsehole in the school playground. But then, you always have, haven't you?

On to the match etc. We were robbed. Deffo. But more so by that useless crunt Keane and the two sitters he fucked up by trying to be a clever crunt and the sitters missed by Duff and that manc shite O'Shea. We were by far the better team and deserved to win, but we blew our chances and THAT was the real decider, not the nature of the French goal. We should have had the game wrapped up in the 90 TBH because I always suspected the French would score at least one at home. We should have killed the game off but didn't. It's a sickener.

I don't blame Henry for what he did - anyone that has ever actually played competitive football knows how fast things happen on the pitch and players tend to react to try and make some type of contact with the ball in a split second. I've done it myself; I actually scored a goal with my hand once. Fucked if I was gonna ask the ref to disallow it - my team mates would have battered me!

Henry reacted instinctively. It happens. Henry is an Arsenal legend. End of. I can't think any less of him now.

I think we (the Oirish) are now in danger of becoming ridiculed in football in a similar way Engerland are for their hilarious 23 year whine about Maradona. We should just drop it now and move on.

We still have alot to look forward to next summer; Hopefully some great football, Engerland talking up how they will win it, then getting knocked out on pennos, then their scumbag travelling "fans" wrecking the place and hopefully getting the shit kicked out of them by riot cops, then the Engerlish "media" and "press" going on the usual witch hunt after the manager... etc etc blah blah blah...

Ironically if Plantini's plan for a 5th and 6th (goalline) officials, he would have been standing right in front of Henry!

That plan may go cold for a while.

Good - sensible - post by DB10Gooner.

But might i add that the media comparing this to Maradonna's handball are just daft.

That was a completely different situation and a completely different goal (Henry didn't palm it in!!)
