im saying he doesnt follow moves through like essien viera flamini type players, hes not box to box.

no he shouldnt need to be but we defo miss that sort of player who shows strength in the final 3rd,
those u list are all top class attackers but they are a little lightweigt. if youve got that essien type bullying the oppo off the ball and forcing it in the oppos half youve got a hell of an advantage.

Seriously, you couldn’t fail but see that result coming after about 20mins. Familiar pattern; start off well, without creating too many clear-cut chances & not taking the ones we do. Gradually they come more into the game & we start to lose our fluency. At some point - usually either just before HT or with about 20mins to go - they score & only then do we show any urgency. It was almost a carbon copy of last year at Sunderland, just without the last min equaliser.
And yes Walcott was shite. Agreed his presence does create space for others cos teams are scared of his pace & he can be a valuable asset for that reason. But that’s not really saying much in his favour if the main thing he brings to the table is the threat of something he next to never actually delivers on.
Would be unfair to single him out though, nobody was really any good today. Song & the CBs were decent enough but Cesc looked knackered, Rosicky was giving the ball away for fun, Sagna was about as useful with crosses as a vampire & Eddie showed that the one thing we’re gonna miss most in RVP’s absence is his link-up play & ability to provide a decent outlet. Not in the Chavski long-ball-to-Drogba sense, but just in his ability to hold off defenders or turn them in one movement under pressure. He’ll get better with games but we’ll have to get forward in support much quicker next week or Terry & Alex will eat him alive.

Exactly. Not sure what you're expecting from Song? Had Essien, or Viera played the way Song did today we'd all be raving about it. He was our best player today.burns718 wrote:to be fair though he shouldnt need to when you have rosicky, nasri, fabregas, arshavin all on the pitchthe playing mantis wrote:who said he didnt start moves? cause he did if you sit in front of your own defence its quite difficult not to start moves....

The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.
And when oh when are we going to start learning to defend set pieces?????

Many might disagree with me, but on that one I blame Almunia. The ball just bounced luckily back to the 6 yards, and he should've been faster to get ont the ball + he goes on the ground sideway and not towards the ball. What I mean is he layed himself on his right while he should've layed on the left to cover more space in front of the ball. He had his feet as opposition as he could've had his whole body. Bad decision imo...donaldo wrote:The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.

But then again, maybe I should see the goal again.
Anyway, our lack of creativity up front and our incapacity to create any dangerous situation worried me much more today!
Spot on. Despite losing players over the international break, on paper at least, our team was stronger than Sunderland's but our attitude stank. Bar one or two individuals, the team strolled about the pitch as if they were simply trying to waste a few hours on a Saturday afternoon. Devoid of ideas & seemingly oblivious to the importance of the game & what we're playing for in the long term.donaldo wrote:The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.
We really missed RvP & not just his finishing. He's much more than just a striker, his link up play & ability to hold up the ball was greatly missed today. Somebody needs to step up with some balls & desire to win these tricky away games. Unfortunately for these reasons, I feel increasingly nervous every time we play away from Ashburton Grove. Full credit to the Mackems, they deserved the win today. They put their full heart & effort into the game...

Definately a below-par performance from the team and a disappointing loss of a point/points - especially given the other results.
We were a little unlucky with their goal but should have been 1 up before then had Eduardo scored from the best and easiest chance of the half. Had he done so, we might well have gone on to win the match fairly comfortably, as we did at Everton and Wolves. The fact that we didn't even get a point makes it even more infuriating.
On Eduardo, without wishing to blame him at all for today, he still doesn't appear to be right to me - lack of match fitness accepted. In fairness he's probably better with a partner up front, but in the past 3 or 4 games he has missed at least 5 gilt-edged chances that you'd normally expect him to gobble up and I wonder if that is just down to lack of sharpness.
Not sure what point I'm really trying to make but it's probably that I've always been a bit unsure whether he could hack it for us. He obviously hasn't been helped by that bad injury and a lack of playing time, but our Crozilian striker has yet to fully convince me he can be the man to score the goals that we all hoped, and that would help us win trophies.
Don't get me wrong - I'm certainly not writing him off just yet. I'm really just explaining that the doubts I initially had have yet to be fully irradicated or disproven. Hopefully they ultimately will be.
(okay - my tin hat is on!! Let me have it...)

They wanted it more, did they? - that old chestnut againdonaldo wrote:The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.

If ManUre/Chelsea had won playing like we did today, some on here would be praising them by saying that winning when playing badly is "the sign of champions"..... yet, as we lost, it's because we "didn't want it enough"

Forget what I just wrote. Wenger agrees with donaldo...g88ner wrote:They wanted it more, did they? - that old chestnut againdonaldo wrote:The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.![]()

Apparently some players lacked focus and weren't mentally prepared!

with all due respect, stop talking bollocks, for once lets stop blaming our own players and acknowledge we were beaten because the opposition were just better than us. its got nothing to do with wenger not getting the players fired up. just watching the match again and all i can see is the sunderland players pressuring us up the pitch and cesc spending more time in our half than the oppositions. especially in the second half, they didnt give us a chance, man to man marking, as soon as our player got the ball they were in quickly from behind tackling us. its got nothing to do with our players not being up for it, they simply had their tactics spot on.donaldo wrote:The attitude of the team stank the Stadium of Light out.Not one Sunderland player would get in our team on ability but they beat us because they wanted it more. And that is all down to Wenger whose job it is to get the players up for games like these. We just didnt have the fight for a battle.
